Loved this book, I could not put it down. There were lots of unexpected twists near the end of the book that made it a really good read.

Please Tess, I can't take any more twists.

The plot in this entry in the series was a bit over the top but I did enjoy the characters and the narration of the audio by Tanya Eby was well done.

4.5 stars. I have devoured all the books in the series I could get my hands on. Loved almost all of them but this one was a bit different, I don't know if it was the subject matter, foster parents being killed and children with them that was hard to read about or the fact that I took my time on this one and slowly read it, that made the story feel so much more intense. But this was one of the most gut punch book and tension heavy I read in a while and even tough I just wanted to finish it and find out what was happening, I needed some breaks from it. It was a very good read!

Another great novel by Tess Gerritsen!
At first, I thought it all started off slowly but then everything started piecing itself together... and the plot twists, there were a bunch that really threw me off.

Overall, a great read. I'm actually anticipating her next novel (and it's not even in the works). Exciting stuff!

Tess Gerritsen knows how to write a taut thriller and Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles remain interesting, dynamic women, but "Last to Die" is not my favorite in the series. Like "Ice Cold," much of the plot of "Last to Die" takes place outside of Boston, which for me starts to stretch the credibility of the events--how is Maura always in the wrong place at the wrong time. I appreciated the book's return to Jane and Maura's friendship, but was disappointed that Jane has been relegated a little to the side while Maura deals with heavy emotional baggage. Don't get me wrong, I love Maura Isles and find her utterly fascinating while still being relatable. I just wish Jane had a chance to show some of spunk we've come to know and love her for.

This is book 10 in the Rizzoli series and I recommend that you read them in order. You should also be prepared for differences between the books and the tv series. My wife and I like both. Most of Gerritsen's books tend to be a bit creepy, but this one is super creepy. A murder takes place in Boston's Beacon Hill, a very rich, exclusive neighborhood. Two adults and their 3 children are murdered. The only survivor is their foster child, Teddy Clock. Teddy's parents were murdered in the US Virgin Islands. Their yacht blew up and Teddy survived.
Jane Rizzoli, Boston PD homicide, is called to the scene. When she starts investigating, she finds other murders with a chilling resemblance. Two parents murdered, a child survives, then the adoptive parents are murdered and the same child survives. But the other murders are outside of Boston and her boss considers the case closed when their chief suspect dies trying to escape the police. Jane does solve the case, with help from Dr. Maura Isles, Boston M.E., and her partner, Detective Frost.
I liked the way the tension builds throughout the plot, gradually exposing who the killer was.
I also liked the side subplots, Jane's family issues and Maura's continuing hostility from the Boston PD(explained in book 9). There is also Maura's relationship with a teenager who saved her life in book 8.
All of it made up a very satisfying read with an ending that tied up all the threads. I read this library book in 3 days.
