Freyja Bedwyn was bound to have the most adventurous meet-cute of her siblings yet. She meets Joshua Moore, Marquess of Hallmere, when he dashes into her room in an inn...and eventually out a window. Their relationship may start out tempestuous, but when Joshua's aunt shows up in Bath insisting that he affiance himself to his first cousin, he has to think quickly and proposes a fake engagement to Freyja while waltzing. She's bored in Bath, so what's a fake engagement for a few days while to pass the time? Until her brother, the Duke of Bewcastle, shows up and insists she share the happy news with the rest of her family.

The thing that I've loved about this series so far is that each book and each Bedwyn sibling has had their own identity. Freyja is a free spirit who doesn't want to be contained by expectation. Except she's also afraid because she's had her heart terribly broken before. Joshua hasn't let his heart be broken because he's a bit of a ne'er do well, having spent the last five years since inheriting the title galavanting around the Continent. I love that the two of them get together because they know they will have more fun egging each other on than going their separate ways. And each time they might part? There's a reason not to.

The main theme through this series so far.... that Mary Balogh has taken me up to 95% in each book without me knowing how the couple will resolve their HEA.

This one was great! Not as perfectly catered to me as the first in the series, but I did like it more than the second book. Freyja is a great character, and I loved all the new side characters. Can't wait to see what's next!

I think Freyja  may be my favourite Bedwyn yet, but I say this after every book.

This was my favorite of the Bedwyn saga thus far. Enjoyed both of the main love interests and I think Freyja is possibly the most interesting sibling.

This might be my favorite Bedwyn book. Freyja Bedwyn is a handsome woman, not beautiful, and she starts the book by punching the hero in the nose not once but twice. Joshua kind of deserves it, though — the first time he kisses her after bursting into her hotel room to escape from angry gents and gets bopped, then she thinks he’s accosting a woman she hears screaming in the park and gets bopped again. Their endless back-and-forth is a delight to read, with Freyja daring and bold and strong and Josh teasing and sweet and playful. He loves winding her up but also sees the deep heart and sensitivity that she tries to hide from everyone else, and that’s beautiful. Also there’s a not-so-fake engagement, Down’s syndrome rep, Bath tourism stops, an evil aunt, and a fake murder charge — what more could anyone want from a historical?!
medium-paced

Freyja is a battle-axe. She's clearly been steamrolling everyone in her path since infancy. It's hard to argue with her methodology, even if I can't condone her tendency toward physical violence. She wants something (either because it's there or it might be sort of interesting or whatever, the rationale doesn't really matter)? She gets it or she ruins everyone's day trying. Love and respect.

Joshua is a rogue with a heart of gold, a lusty man of the people with carpentry skills.  He is unserious, but it's nothing a few face punches can't solve (again, I do not condone domestic violence, but he kinda likes it?). He and Freyja have an impulsive opposites attract thing going on, and run a completely unsuccessful and barely thought out fake engagement (in that they are nearly the only ones who know it's fake and then it barely is). Josh brings the evil relative plot in this book, but the cousins are nice!

I love that Freyja is the grump in this pairing and always unapologetically herself. Joshua becomes a little too well behaved as the book wears on; his maturation was good to see, but we're talking about a dude who was escaping out in windows at the beginning of the book! I would have liked to see a little more chaos retained.

Anyway, this was good. There's a lot of "we're functionally engaged, boning, and in love, but here are my excuses!" which does get a bit old. The audiobook was good.

Surprisingly, my favourite Bedwyn Saga so far!

I was not expecting to enjoy Freyja's story so much. But Freyja and Josh are perfect together. I loved their chaos. And I loved the slow reveal of their real characters.

And in this book we finally get the Bedwyns en masse. A formidable force against the villains of the story.
