Of all the Bedwyns, I thought I'd enjoy Freyja's story the least since she came across, in books 1 and 2, as arrogant and hard to like. But I enjoyed this! Josh is a dreamy leading man and backwards the development of their relationship is interesting.

We get it. Freya is an independent woman. An independent woman in regency era England. Flying in the face of conventions. Going her own way, despite society's expectations. She can do anything without the help of a man. In the end, she ends up falling in love with a man. Even though she doesn't need him. Her determination to assert her independence and go against the grain grated on the nerves after awhile. I didn't find her to be particularly believable and certainly not likable. Her love interest was much more interesting and dynamic.

Freyja & Joshua’s story. I enjoyed Freyja’s personality- so atypical but very relatable (for me).

look it's okay but that girl is very punchy

Meh. It was nice enough. I think I suffered from reading too many Bedwyn Saga novels in a row. I just couldn't quite get into this. The characters were nice enough. The story was nice enough. The drama was nice enough. ... But nothing quite hit the spot for me. If you love the other Bedwyn books, you'll probably love this one too. I just couldn't quite get into this. Joshua's dilemma could have been super interesting, but it always felt like it was on the periphery of the story. Everything worked out too easily. Even Josh's relationship with Freyja seemed too easy. For all of the banter that was meant to make them seem more rivals than lovers, they seemed to just click from the beginning. Nothing felt super natural in the progression of the plot. It all seemed manufactured to move the story forward. Yeah, I guess you could say that about every book, but I don't normally notice it so much in the books I read. I entirely own the fact that all of my feelings about this story could have totally been affected by my own mood at the time. At a different time in my life I might have felt more passionate about this. As it was, I can only give it three generous stars. It was nice enough, but only just. I'm going to take a break from the Bedwyn family for a spell and see if I feel more ready to jump into book four when I've read a few palate cleansers in between.

I loved this book. It’s been my favorite of the Bedwyns so far! Joshua was a breath of fresh air in a genre full of brooding, serious, emotionally damaged Heros. And Freyja had the “I’m not like other girls” thing about her but in a non-cheesy way that didn’t make me want to roll my eyes. And I loved their relationship, it felt like it developed naturally.
