This covers everything you need to know, it has been very useful through Peppers puppyhood especially Bc it’s such a positive approach
Very accessible guide for beginner dog parents! Having had my dog for 2,5 years now, there's a lot of beginner information that I no longer needed, but it was good to hear it repeated anyway.
I've wanted to read this book for a long time but kept putting it off because I thought it was going to be a book with lots of 'how to' steps that I felt like I had to do in that moment, but it was really mostly about behavior and care and all that stuff. Near the end there are some instructions for certain tricks, but I'd prefer to just watch his videos about that!

Overall this serves as a great reference for topics related to training, but it’s not a definitive training manual. We do watch the videos which have been endlessly helpful.
Lots of useful information in here. This book goes against the “human must be the pack leader” philosophy, which I found disconcerting at first. But Zak does back his claims with (some) systematic evidence. And in the end the practical advice doesn’t change so much between the two training philosophies: keep the dog contained in the first few weeks; a tired dog is a good dog; etc. Even when it comes to obedience training the advice is practically the same (punishment doesn’t work; reward liberally). In the end reading this book right after Cesar Millan’s *How to Raise the Perfect Dog* was surpisingly reassuring.
A ton of good information but definitely geared more towards first time dog owners/new puppy owners.

Research. Planning on a puppy after the move and after summer travel. This book is great. Makes me feel like I'll be able to handle puppy training! It's nothing new if you've watched a bunch of his YouTube videos like we have. But probably nice to have a reference guide to go back to.
