definitely my fave dog trainer i have come across

Excellent introduction to dog training without outdated methods and punishments. Clear and concise writing with loads of resources. Very valuable book for all dog lovers

Love is all you need... and these tips to train your dog lovingly. I took my time reviewing this book because I was never really finished with it. I'm still not finished. It remains on my shelf in easy reach, so I can refer back to the tips I skimmed through earlier, and get the reminders and refreshers I need just as much as my dog needs them.

A good introduction to soft dog training methods from a USA perspective. Main idea is to build a great relationship with your dog by trying to understand what the dog is signaling and how it perceive you. He also goes into detail on how to trick train your dog and why he thinks it’s a great idea. And in a US mindset encourages you to visit your vet a lot.

What the book lacks is a research backbone. Yes his methods are close enough and many people probably wants someone to just tell you what to do. But I think all instructors and trainers should train people to look at research and start asking ‘why’ a lot more.

If you are middle class living in your own house in USA and just got your first dog and haven’t thought much about how to approach dogs this is the book for you. Quick and easy read and with an extensive YouTube channel to complement his method. If you have had animals for most of your life and already are well read about soft methods then don’t think you will learn anything.

As a first time dog mom, I found Zack George on the YouTubes first. I like his positive approach to building a relationship with your pup. When he released this book, I decided to give it a try.

The format is user-friendly. The chapters follow a logical order:
1. Choosing the Right Dog for You
2. Everything You Need to Prepare for Your Pet's Arrival
3. Steps for a Smooth Transition
4. Dog Training Revolution: The Key Principles
5. House Training 101: The Five Basic Rules
6. Basic Training: The Fundamental Skills Every Dog Needs to Know
7. How to Troubleshoot the Most Common Behavior Problems
8. In Sickness and In Health: Basic Care for Your Dog
9. Time for Fun: Cool Tricks, traveling, Exercise, and More

I had been researching and reading before we got our puppy, but this book and the companion videos hyperlinked into the e-book definitely helped. We didn't want our little guy going to a puppy obedience class until he was fully vaccinated, so the resources here helped me start training our Labradoodle right away.

The chapter and videos on house training are worth reading and viewing, especially if you're like me and you've never had a dog before.

We still wanted to attend obedience classes for the weekly structure. Plus we picked a puppy class that included socialization time. But this book has been a fantastic resource for the past several months as I continue to reinforce training. Sometimes a method from class doesn't work, so I check out videos from the Dog Training Revolution.

Great training advice, but I wouldn't follow to the dot everything else in terms of feeding, neutering etc. Which makes sense because Zak is a fantastic trainer so his area of expertise might not cover each and every nuance of rearing a dog, but he will teach you how to make the most out of your relationship with your dog!

I guess the true measure of this book will be discovered after I actually get a dog, but I feel so much more confident going into that relationship now and training my dog to a high degree. Plus, I like how this book emphasizes positive reinforcement rather than scolding; the tips in this book give you a similar mindset for training dogs like my education training prepared me for teaching children.

Super helpful! Spoke a lot about a lot of things--super comprehensive. Not great at some specific things like introducing our dog to our cat. But I really like what he has to say and found it very helpful in training.
