This book was so good! It was intriguing and held my interest the whole time and then the plot twist at the end really got me! SO GOOD

I bought this book because the hype was S O big and the cover was perfection.

Four Dead Queens was a decent read. It’s pretty slow starting off but after the first Queen dies....things pick up!

There’s secrets and plotting and kissing (?). There was a bit of a love story that I didn’t think was set up all that well but whatevs.

Astrid’s writing is very nice. She has a handle with detail and her world building was wonderful.

I liked this book but wish it focused on the fantasy aspects more (ie world building and political intrigue) and less on the murder mystery plot. Also the romance felt very insta lovey and I wasn’t a fan of that. I guess you could say I wasn’t a fan of the plots focused on Keralie which is a shame since she is the main character.

Yo quería que me gustara, de verdad. Pero qué cojones acabo de leer.

Literalmente si le doy 2 estrellas es por los primeros capítulos de Keralie, porque no me han podido importar menos los capítulos de las reinas. Además, los capítulos finales en general han sido un puto cuadro.

Supongo que que la expresión “exclamó” se repita hasta la saciedad tampoco ha ayudado a que me gustara la novela.

Tampoco ha ayudado que desde el principio haya sido bastante obvio quién tenía relación con los asesinatos, aunque

que la reina Marguerite no estuviese muerta no me lo esperaba y me ha gustado

Por otro lado, me ha molestado bastante que durante la investigación se utilizaran ciertos métodos de investigación que con cierto personaje hasta el final no lo han hecho.

También he de decir que el worldbuilding me ha parecido bastante pobre, la autora podría haberlo desarrollado más/mejor, al igual que con los personajes. Ninguna me ha hecho especial gracia, si acaso podría salvar a Keralie, pero no sé.

Como contrapartida, me ha hecho gracia imaginarme que cada cuadrante va vestido con ropas normales y luego estaban los de Eonia, en trajes de neopreno por la vida.

Por último, añadir que, no sabría decir si porque el ritmo es rápido o porque es una lectura fácil, pero avanzas sin apenas darte cuenta. Pensaba que dos sucesos importantes para la trama habían pasado demasiado pronto cuando, en realidad, ya había pasado como un cuarto del libro.

Picked this book up on a whim and was pleasantly surprised.
A divided nation where each sector has very generic theming and its citizens each have a role to play. The only two quadrants we interact with are Toria and Eonia which strongly remind me of Ketterdam from Six Of Crows and The Society from The Giver.
I hate to admit it but I didn't connect with the queens at all. I found their chapters quite dull and found myself racing to finish them.
I quite liked Varin and Mackiel was entertainingly unhinged. Keralie however was a very generic thief.
This book would have been five stars except I wasn't impressed by the ending. Everything after Mackiel's reveal when Keralie was in the dungeon just made me roll my eyes. Mind control chips and some power crazed girl we've never heard of? Mmm okay then.
