I don't like the way it's written at all. I only read a little bit it managed to irritate me in these short few pages. One moment we're talking about the main character, next it's about college and her friends, then for a short moment it's about her finding out she's probably been kidnapped, but then it drags along about how her body is moving on its own, then there's this Reeve guy(?), and then we're talking about her possibly being kidnapped again?? What the fuck am I supposed focus on?
Interesting plot I suppose, but I was not a fan of the writing style. It did leave me a little interested in reading more to find out about the next chapter in Janie's life, but considering all the other books on my "to-read" list it will just have to wait.

I initially sympathized with Janie when she learned she was kidnapped. It’s understandable for a young woman to keep that kind of secret to herself and that secret slowly eat away at her. But honestly, this book was super slow. Almost the entire book is Janie going back and forth, back and forth about what she was going to do and when she finally does confront her parents we get a confusing explanation what do you mean your daughter kidnapped her and then just dropped you off? That sounds like a lie. I was hoping for her parents to be the antagonists but instead they were also the victims… so there was no true antagonist because we never even see or hear from Hannah.
Janie’s friends and boyfriend are awful and boring people. You could have taken them away from the story and nothing would have changed. All Reeve did was think about having sex with her (also what was with the motel scene? SUPER pointless). Maybe if Janie had a better support group she would have felt more comfortable telling someone what had happened to her. Also, Sarah-Charlotte is an ugly name.

16 y/o blames herself for going through a identity crisis while her bf is too horny to listen to her and also blames her
I remember reading this book in middle school and enjoying it, but rereading it as an adult just made me cringe. The concept, absolutely great. The way it’s written though is just cringe.
And I’ll say right now, 16 year olds who still say mommy and daddy…cringe. Sorry, but it’s just weird to me.
I will finish the series just because I don’t like being left hanging and they’re short enough I won’t mind. But it’s not a series I will read again.
