I remember reading this book in middle school and enjoying it, but rereading it as an adult just made me cringe. The concept, absolutely great. The way it’s written though is just cringe.
And I’ll say right now, 16 year olds who still say mommy and daddy…cringe. Sorry, but it’s just weird to me.
I will finish the series just because I don’t like being left hanging and they’re short enough I won’t mind. But it’s not a series I will read again.

A coworker of mine asked me to recommend a few books that I read when I was in high school. I am not sure why, but this one came to mind almost instantaneously. I lent her my book and she promised she'd bring it back after she finished reading it. I decided to read it as well.
Maybe it's a desperate attempt to get somewhere in my reading challenge this year...
I didn't think I would finish it in one day... maybe there is hope for me after all, hahaha.
I'm not sure that I'm interested enough to read the rest of the series. There are, I discovered, 4 more books in this... should I try it... am I curious enough... maybe...?
Initially, I had rated this a 2 star out of 5, because it wasn't that interesting as a teenager (sec. 1, if I recall correctly). As an adult, I think this is a very interesting story.

This book came highly recommended. It is a kids book, and a bit of a teen romance at that, but it is quite well-written and the plot is new to me. The central missing keeps you guessing as you find out the details along with the main character. I was actually quite upset when I got to the end and found out that it is part of a trilogy and the story was unresolved.
The story and characters are very boring and annoying. Janie is supposed to be in high school but talks and acts like a 5 year old. This book could have ended in just a few chapters. No real ending either, it just leaves you hanging.
This book was passed around like contraband at my Catholic middle school. Every girl in my class read it. Someone brave had gotten it out of the library, I think, and then we passed that library copy from person to person so we could all read it without having to go get it ourselves. I think we thought it was dirty? Does it even have dirty parts? I don't even remember them! I remember hiding it under my bed when my mom came in the room. Probably it was more fun to imagine our moms disapproving, and to read it in secret, than to just get your own copy like a normal person.
Being normal: a tall order for 13-year-olds, anyway.
I must have liked it. Who wouldn't like it, reading it that way?

Oh Em Gee, did I really just waste away 4 hours of my life on this?
This is a story about a fifteen year old girl named Janie, who one fateful day at school finds a photo of herself as a missing child on a milk carton, & get this- it happened twelve years ago! This shocking discovery leads to a riveting journey where Janie freaks about being potentially "kidnapped". But no! *GASP* it can't be! Janie loves her mommy & daddy- they wouldn’t do this to her. Still, she cannot dismiss they might be evil, dark people who stole her! She loves them dearly. It's serious how much she loves them, "serious like her hair". (Yes, that simile was actually used.) Yawn. And in a totally unexpected twist of events? The books ends with NOTHING being resolved. I spent hours suffering through the boring narrative to find that almost NONE of my questions were answered in the end!

This book is entirely rising action. Don't get me wrong, it's a fast read but the end of the book was the maybe the apex of the story? I don't think I'll read any further into the series because I suspect the stakes only keep rising and I need conclusions.
