I don’t hate it and to be fair this isn’t really a genre I ready much anymore. The plot was interesting enough that I finished it, but I do wish the characters had been more fleshed out and more time/ pacing given to the reveal and conclusion. This may seem like being overly critical, but given the hold these events are meant to have on the town overall itself, I do wish more time had also been spent on really describing and getting a better sense of the town. Maybe this is just me as I mostly read fantasy where much time is spent on world building.

Pretty creepy for a YA book!! I enjoyed this story even in a few slower parts between the action. Definitely some stranger things vibes!!

A mysterious killer has lurked for decades, leaving its victims stitched back together in horrendous ways, while Abby and her friends grow up with the constant threat of being taken and returned as gory remnants; growing up and getting out of town to not be the next victim is the goal of every teenager.

This started as a very promising read, but I had a hard time feeling afraid of the Stitcher and felt the book lagged a bit toward the middle. I enjoyed the characters and the dynamics between them, but the villain seemed just too far fetched for me to suspend my disbelief.

Darcy Coates keeps her feet planted in the YA camp with this story of high schoolers fighting a monster in a small, weird town. It’s actually a pretty basic monster movie type thing but creative and scary in a way that’s pleasantly surprising. It has a quirky mood, the town is interesting, there’s lots and lots of red thread and people climbing into holes. It’s all just also just such an annoyingly wholesome and vanilla TV movie for teens that it feels slight. But then the monster is actually spooky and it starts having good horror moments and you think, I can work with this. Fun book for teens.

Where He Can't Find You is an interesting take on the Boogeyman. A small town is terrorized by The Stitcher, who takes people in the night and returns them stitched together with red thread. I loved how this was such a slow burn that the creepy parts snuck up on me, and I was questioning whether it was a man or a supernatural monster through most of the book. One scene had me really glad I wasn't home alone when I read it. Great job on another one, Darcy!

This book is TENSION AND SUSPENSE!!! Oh my god the anxiety it built up in my body! It’s like just on the borderline of too much, but didn’t break it for me personally. It felt a smidge too long near the middle, but I loved the ride. I loved the characters. I loved the world building.

There’s a few holes here and there that I won’t get into for spoiler reasons. I wish Coates went into them a bit more. But I reallllllly enjoyed this book.
