Due back at library. I think I got most of what I would have gotten out of this.

Quote from the book:
“Contrary to what the naive view believes, Homo sapiens didn’t conquer the world because we are talented at turning information into an accurate map of reality. Rather, the secret of our success is that we are talented at using information to connect lots of individuals. Unfortunately, this ability often goes hand in hand with believing in lies, errors, and fantasies.”

Details information, networks and their ability to create truth and order. A reference for the present ai revolution and how we’ve gotten to this point. A reminder that change is the only constant.

Wonderful insight and history as is to be expected from Harari. If you're familiar with his other books this one fits right in, albeit on the more speculative side than compared to something like Sapiens. I thoroughly enjoyed the read though and would recommend it.

Harari is one of the most insightful thinkers of our time in my opinion. I’ve read all of his works and they seem to come right on time! This book was really helpful with navigating the culture around AI. As someone who has a huge distrust in it, I feel like my suspicions are validated. This isn’t essentially the doomsday book as the title and certain chapters would imply but it certainly emphasizes the correlation with new technologies and human nature in general. With a strong focus on the past it highlights the potential of the dangers of a new technology in the future. At points some of the passages are long winded and read like a textbook but others are so intense you can’t look away.

Spans over several millenia although the main topic is the rise and risky of artificial intelligence. The author is aware that wild speculations about the future of AI and information networks is very risky but does them nevertheless.
