I WAS PROMISED A DOMINANT FEMALE / SUBMISSIVE MALE BOOK AND I DID NOT GET IT AND I'M FUCKING PISSED.

I was so goddamn excited for this, y'all have no idea. Dominant, fat, lawyer FMC and sweet, golden retriever, hockey player MMC ?????????? You had me sitting from the second I found out this was going to exist.

Unfortunately, this book was a mess. It took absolutely every cell in my body not to DNF this. I don't know if the author assumes her readers are stupid, or if she just likes spelling out every excruciating detail like she's telling a story to a kindergartener. It got really redundant.

I'm also really sick of the astrology stuff in her books. I'm not a religious person, I don't like reading about religion, and I would place astrology in the same vein as religion in that it's used to try to explain shit we don't have the answers to. It's boring and lazy.

The plot was portrayed as more dramatic than it needed to be, and the conflict between the FMC and MMC was contrived. And I did not like how she needed to "step into her confidence" with Ryan at the end ???? It's not a pair of pants.

Don't even get me started on the fucking sex scenes because I could rant for fucking hours.

All in all, I wish I could unread this simply because it makes me furious every time I think about it. Apparently, I am a glutton for punishment, though, because I will be reading Poppy's book. Keep me in your thoughts.

RYAN LANGLEY… need I say more?

Ryan is by far one of my favorite male leads, only topped by Jake of book 1. I liked that this was just a MF book, mainly because I feel like we got to focus enough on the relationship between the two MC’s. In the first book I felt that the relationship between MFC and one of the MMC’s (Mars) wasn’t developed enough because they didn’t have enough page time. But, that wasn’t a problem here. Ryan is adorable, great, sweet, and an A+. So why didn’t I give this book 5 stars?

Tess. Tess is why. Tess is by far not my favorite MFC. If you like Tess in the first few chapters you will likely have a better view of this book than I do. If you don’t then she doesn’t get better. For me it isn’t that she’s been through a rough time with her ex, that’s whatever. I just really didn’t like her personality. I also thought it was weird to constantly mention things like “bring back fun Tess” or whatever it reminded me of “inner goddess” from 50 Shades of Grey (which I hated). She just seemed whiney, insecure, and overall a headache. It seemed like the only chemistry she had with Ryan was physical, she didn’t match his vibe or complement him at all.

Also this is a spoiler but it’s what removed a whole star rating for me, it’s petty. And book 3 had something similar.
I HATED how her frankly cartoonishly evil ex had no consequences for stalking, assaulting, sexually harassing, and terrorizing her. TBH Tess refusing to press charges/hold him accountable/etc is what really made me dislike her character. She was “glad it was over” but she was, unlike so many women, in a position where she could get justice from her tormentor? She’s rich as fuck and so is her partner? And she was like “no thanks”. I get it, many women don’t want to press charges for many reason irl, but could he have at least got hit by a bus? Attacked by a seagull? Lost his law license ? Anything??? I read fiction as an escape and while it’s realistic for awful people to not have consequences I really like to see at least a mild on in fiction.

Also I hated
the proposal, how Tess proposed to Ryan was cringe as fuck.
