Iko was always one of my favourite characters and it's fun to see an arc from her perspective in such a new format. I enjoyed the format and the art especially. However, overall the story was cute but without any real tension, and while I enjoyed many of the interactions between the characters, the dialogue largely failed to land any of the humour that I enjoyed throughout the lunar chronicles series.
Four years ago, I picked up a book called Cinder and over the years I fell head over heels in love with The Lunar Chronicles. After Stars Above was published, everyone thought 'well that's it'. The end of the Rampion gang and their adventures. Or was it? Suddenly, Marissa announced she was writing a graphic novel with Iko as main focus, and let's just say lots of people lost their minds, myself included.
Wires and Nerve takes place after the events of Winter. Cinder/Selene is now queen of Luna, and all is well. But then, Cinder receives news that rogue packs of Lunar Special Operatives are still at large on Earth, wreaking havoc everywhere. Iko decides to travel to Earth to hunt down these packs and bring them back to Luna. But then, a new threat arises.
I am a huge fan of graphic novels and comics, and I love it when books I enjoyed get turned into graphic novels (still waiting for Harry Potter, to be honest). So yes, I was very excited to get my hands on this one, though when I finally did I wanted to save it for as long as I could. Obviously, I didn't, and I ended up finishing the book in two days. And stars above it was beautiful.
The story was great, and for me it didn't feel like it was trying to drag out the original story too much. We got more information on several things that people were probably wondering about after the end of Winter and Stars Above, and I personally enjoyed finding it out in a book rather than finding it out through an interview or a blog post (no shade towards authors to do this, though).
Just revisiting all the characters I fell in love with was incredible, and I loved that we finally got to see what they looked like. Though of course, this is still one person's view on the characters, and it is by no means 'canon'. For example, even though it was clearly described in the books, I never pictured Jacin as a blonde. (I do now, of course, because I did kind of adopt Doug's view of the characters). For me, they all looked almost exactly like I imagined, and I was glad that someone else saw them like this too.
Which brings me to the artwork. It was simple, with only blue tones, white and black used. I am very easily pleased with artwork, but I have to admit my favourite ones are still the very simple ones. Personally I would have loved some little read details, just like the book covers, but I already loved the blue tones very much. Honestly there literally wasn't anything I could think of that I didn't like about this book, other than the fact that it ended.
For me, Wires and Nerve was a great success, and I will certainly reread this graphic novel after rereading the Lunar Chronicles (which I honestly felt like doing again, even though I literally just reread them). If you're not entirely sure you want to read this novel, you can check out an excerpt here. If you love the Lunar Chronicles as much as I do, what are you waiting for, go and pick up this novel! Even if you're not a huge fan of graphic novels, just give it a try!

I cannot tell you how excited I was when I heard Marissa Meyer was going to do a graphic novel series based off The Lunar Chronicles. And when I heart it was going to be about Iko? Safe to say I lost it and it's amazing that my roommate still puts up with me. If you haven't figured it out yet, The Lunar Chronicles are one of my most favorite series in the whole entire universe. I will have to review them at some point because honestly, I don't know how I can keep from gushing about them. They are fantastic and Wires and Nerve lives up to them without question.
It's short, yes, and to the point, but that doesn't take away from the storytelling at all. It's a lot of fun to read a graphic novel where you can see the characters you've loved for so long and get a glimpse into the mind of someone who had always been a secondary character. Getting the answers to questions that have been hanging around since "Something Blue" came out was nice too. This book is a trip down memory lane. A way to catch up with old characters while still getting the chance to live through a new story with a character we haven't gotten the chance to connect with as well. What is there not to love?
I give it...dun dun dun...5/5! I'm so glad to get back to books I actually love with all my heart! I happily went out and bought this the day it came out, would read it a million more times, and cannot wait for the next one! Why does it have to be so long? Gah! I'm not normally a graphic novel fan, but this book made me happy in all the right ways.
If you liked The Lunar Chronicles (which I want to strongly recommend you read first) then you should definitely give this a shot! Go back to the world we love so much and those characters that populated it. You will not be disappointed. Your Goodreads list is just begging for this to be added. Do yourself a favor and read it, even if graphic novels aren't really your thing. You never know what kind of surprise you may get.
Marissa Meyer, you are literally my hero right now. Is there nothing you can't do?

I originally rated this 5 stars, but after thinking about it, I feel like 4 stars is more accurate. I liked the story, but it was very short. Also, I kinda wish the illustrations were more in color. I absolutely adore Iko as a main character. I read it in one sitting though, so that went by fast. Can't believe I have to wait another year for the last one.
4.5/5 Stars
This was a fun read! I enjoyed getting back into this world and seeing the characters again. I especially enjoyed seeing what everyone looked like! I can't wait for the next one!

After being a huge fan of The Lunar Chronicles for years, I was super excited to read this book. And it did not disappoint! I loved seeing more of Iko and I really enjoyed the inclusion of the other characters from the series. I also especially loved the idea of this book being a graphic novel. It added a super cool element to be able to see the characters. I can't wait to start reading volume 2!
Wires and Nerve is a quick, funny, and light-hearted read. I've missed the characters from the Lunar Chronicles; it's been a while since I read Stars Above, so it's so nice to revisit Cinder and the whole crew!
Except, in this graphic novel, we focus on Iko, the lovable robot with a 'glitchy' personality chip. This graphic novel reminded me so much of why I loved TLC in the first place, while introducing a new plot into the whole story. I believe this takes place shortly after Winter, giving us the whole 'what happens next?' after the series finale (that's not as far into the future as the Epilogue in Stars Above).
Iko's new job is hunting the rogue, genetically-engineered Lunar soldiers, who serve as the main issue for the series. I love the light tone of this new story. I flew through the pages of this graphic novel, as I did with all the books in TLC, definitely forgetting that this series weave in a lot of politics (in a good way, since not served well, they usually bore me).
My only critic is that the artwork could've been better, but this is completely my own preferrence. I thought making the art style less juvenile would've been better.
Now my wait for the second book starts now.

2020 - Stále to totálně miluju!
