Dan’s journey was a great one to follow along with. It reminded me that im not alone in my journey with Buddhism and that this journey can take many forms.

I’ve had this book sitting on my kindle for a while. Now was the perfect time for me to absorb it. As someone who has dabbled in mindfulness for over a year, I’ve been in a self exploration phase that allows me to relate deeply to this book. As someone who goes through life with a more than healthy sense of skepticism, this book made me feel seen... and then... optimistic. Harris’s writes with humor and a journalistic approach that works really well. It doesn’t hurt that he has access to crazy experiences and stories about famous people. And man, does he know how to end a chapter with a cliff hanger. A readable, funny, science based book about mindfulness? Exactly what I needed to get me ready for a deeper exploration.

This is a book about a newscaster who found his way to mindfulness and meditation, in spite of being very resistant to anything remotely spiritual, self-help or hippy-ish. If you're looking for a practicing how-to, this is not that book.

A friend picked this up from a public library remnant sale, then loaned it to us when meditation came up in conversation. I really enjoyed it. First of all, the inside dishing on reporters is pretty fascinating. Also, the guy has a fascinating story. Also, this book does a great job of leading you gently down the primrose--as you follow Harris' own progression--path from skepticism to pragmatic curiosity to faith in meditation and mindfulness. So today I started Jesse on a little daily meditation practice. Because heavens knows if anyone needs a little more calm it's him.

Read this book because a colleague raved about it, but I have no idea why. Nothing wrong with the book, but also nothing revelatory. Actually, it bored me more than anything. It’s basically a public figure who struggles to find his center. It felt egotistical, which is antithetical to the Buddhism he clings to in many cerebral ways.

[Audiobook review] If you don’t like that distinctive newsreader voice you might be better off just picking up a paper copy but the content is fantastic. The book offers great insight into Buddhist principles without being too reverent or worshipping and outlines how meditation can help pretty much anyone while acknowledging the conceptual struggles you might face.
