Väldigt tankeväckande

After having read many mixed reviews of this book, I went into my reading of it a bit skeptically. Which is something I don't prefer to do with Paulo Coelho's novels. However, as it turns out, I found "The Winner Stands Alone" to be quite compelling and a bit thought-provoking. It's certainly not in the same category as some of Coelho's other novels, but yes, this novel was indeed enjoyable. I certainly will need to revisit it again after thinking the topic of "desire" a little more.

Too slow, too many confusing storylines

I love Paulo Coelho's work, he is a stunning author who has a beautiful way with words and telling stories.
This book was a great learning experience about the superficial world of celebrities and the current social class and consumer culture we live in. How we focus more on external than internal experiences.
It is a Spiritual book filled with ideologies and cultural standards blended nicely into a story line involving four characters who's lives all collide with each other. Murder and mystery surrounding the pretentious Cannes Film Festival in France.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, although it did take me a long time to finish it as it is very dense and can be quiet boring in pace and descriptiveness in places.

Although the end was frustrating and wasn't what I was expecting at all, I still think its a great book. Paulo Coelho is a spectacular writer. Some of the characters like the police and the other guy that was solving the case, hasn't been mentioned at the end so I was really curious what happened to them, and also to Gabriela. I wish there was a sequel to this book.
