This whole book story I relished in. Enemies to lovers, age difference, single dad, kid with disability, plot twist.

The first part of the book was pretty good even though I thought it was moving a bit too fast in the relationship but that wasn’t too bad. Then the big plot twist happened and I was surprised but still kept reading because again - it wasn’t too bad. But honestly it just went downhill from there, I mean it was cute but also I was cringing and felt like I was getting sick from the sweetness, it was a bit much.
I did very much enjoy the ASL part of it, Olivia and Phoebe were great with that.Honestly maybe they should’ve just done long distance while she had school and just aborted the baby? I don’t know, Asher was obviously right fot stepping up and if she really wanted the baby then by all means, BUT you can’t go on the entire book about how important your education and your dream/ goal about becoming a audiologist is to throw it away. Specially because she made this big deal about taking a gap year to have the baby and then go back to Texas or Vanderbilt and ends up going to Penn that she said was convenient but not anything like her first choices?? I don’t know, thinking a lot, made me deduct stars for that.

The first 70% of the book was solid- nothing groundbreaking, but it was a decent read and I was enjoying it.
But that freaking plot twist ruined everything. I DNF’d it without a second thought.
I enjoyed the banter in the beginning, but as it kept going it just got more cringeworthy. It started to feel forced and repetitive. Not much was keeping me interested and the third act conflict was a cheap way to keep readers entertained.
I was hopeful of the tropes- single-dad, protective grump, and small-town romance would've been right up my alley, but that plot twist ruined everything for me.
I'm bummed this is the first book I read in 2024 because it was a disappointment.

Been a long time since I've read a Corrine Michaels book. This author for me is like a hit and miss. She has books that completely devastate me in a good way while the others left me detached because the story, or maybe the writing felt flat or off in some ways. This book is the latter. Why does it seem or feel like every small town romance she writes are all the same? It often feels lacking and cliché and for the life of me, I'm tired of reading the same thing over again no matter how different the plot is. I've read it before in Hennington Series or Arrowood Series so I'm done.
This book tackling ASL is the best part. The characters, plot, writing, etc. are just average. I'm here writing this review and I can't write any special adjectives for her main characters and their chemistry, because well there's nothing special about them for me.
Asher Whitlock
-38 y/o (14-year Age Gap)
-Small Town Sheriff/SWAT Commander
-Sugarloaf County (Connected with Arrowood Series)
-Single Dad (never married)
-Co-parenting with Baby Mama and have a good friendship; they never dated.
-Daughter: Olivia Whitlock (9y/o, deaf since birth)
Phoebe Bettencourt
-24 y/o
-Grad School Student (Audiology Program - ASL)
-Father is the Police Chief of Sugarloaf.
-Proxy Nanny for Olivia Whitlock.
-Left University of Iowa due to being involved with a Married Professor.

4.5 stars!
A small town, age gap, single dad/nanny forbidden romance written by Corinne Michaels with her propensity for putting her characters through the wringer...YESSS, PLEASE!!
I loved this book!! Asher and Phoebe are so perfect together. I could not get enough of the chemistry that radiated right off the page every time they interacted. Their banter filled with sarcastic sass and lust-filled teases had me in a chokehold. The push and pull. The I want you but we can't. Gah! So delicious!!
I absolutely adored the dynamic between Phoebe and Asher's daughter, Olivia. Because Olivia is deaf, Phoebe became very protective of her. And because she specializes in this field, Phoebe truly tries to make everything better for this little girl who captured her heart.
I loved being back in Sugarloaf. This new series is already taking over my heart. I can't wait to read more from the Whitlock family.
If you want a steamy, forbidden romance with small town charm, an adorable little girl, a swoony yet grumpy small town cop, and a fiesty, nanny who holds her own against her boss, you definitely need Fobidden Hearts. If you're like me, you'll devour it in one night.
