Not really as shocking or disturbing as it thinks it’s being, honestly felt it was getting really silly. If you want something similar that’s a lot more fully realised than this try Dennis Cooper’s The Sluts.

Well... This was a roller-coaster... Going downwards... To hell...

I'm not sure if I should have started my horror book journey with this one. And I don't mean it in a bad way. Hell, I don't even know if I mean it in a good way.

When I started reading it, I was wondering if something would finally happen. And it did... It just wasn't what I was expecting, at least partially.

This novella made me feel uneasy and quite frankly disgusted. Could it get much worse? For sure.

While reading it, my mind reminisced various scenes of different horror movies and anthologies I've watched which have made me feel the same level of uncomfortable.

Regarding the characters, this novella made me often wonder which of the two is more deranged compared to the other. Zoe is truly evil; not only because of the things she manipulated Agnes into doing, but also for leaving when shit hit the fan. And Agnes? Oh boy... I don't think I've had any character make me exclaim "wtf" this many times before, and do with that what you will.

I feel guilty to say that I enjoyed reading this book because it's so disturbing, gross and creepy. this will stay with me for a long time and I'm not happy about it.
I like it but I don't recommend it.

I do think this was a good book in the way that I liked the idea of the chatroom as a way to tell a story.

I wish that the story had been a bit longer to have more dialogue and had actually been a destructive relationship for both of them. When started it I did think this would be it, and got slightly disappointed when it was basically a case of abuse.

Overall, not necessarily a bad read.

This is an endurance test. It’s one of those pieces of fiction that gets worse and worse over a short period of time, and you want it to stop but at the same time you can’t help but watch. Never agree to sign a slave contract to someone over the internet lol

when i first read this book, it changed my brain chemistry. it's so genuinely special to me and, like, the first ever fucked up lesbian shit ive seen in my life. rereading it, though, its kinda mid honestly. one of those books thatd be better if it was written by an actual lesbian.

adore the writing style, the descriptions, the poetry of it all; it's visceral, haunting, and has stuck with me since i first read it.
i still think a lot about when agnes so joyfully told zoe she finally had their "child" (a tapeworm). also, "fuck you. fuck you and your honesty." will forever stick with me, holy shit.
but, on the other hand, the chat message dialogue is kinda clunky and i dislike how it's advertised as mutual obsession when it's just zoe abusing agnes. the author's notes and the whole police report aspect are wholly unnecessary in my opinion, too; i feel the ending and the characters' fates should've been left ambiguous. it would've made the book, as a whole, hit a whole lot harder. i think describing the bdsm contract as "tortuous" in one of the author's notes was kinda stupid.

all in all, i greatly recommend this, but don't go into it expecting a mutually destructive relationship full of rotting gardenias and parasites and disturbing dreams. it's abuse, but it's poetic abuse. i think i would've liked this one more had i not been misled and had it not had those stupid ass author's notes.

If you have read “Haunted” by the author of fight club this novella is that vibe. It’s gross and weird. I wanted a bit more story or follow through but the visceral feeling it inspires cannot be denied.
