So many characters. It was hard to keep them straight. I liked the relationship between Tommy and Tuppence.
Possibly my least favorite Christie ever. I have never been a huge fan of Tommy and Tuppence, although it was historically interesting to read if only because this is the first book the crime fighting duo appear in. Basically, this book is super dated and not in a good way. And the story, which centers on a Soviet plot to bring down the British government, relies mainly on coincidences, luck and characters making decisions based on a person’s exterior trustworthiness; not the most reliable or believable mode of sleuthing. I think I prefer Christie’s murder mysteries to her spy stories.
I give it 5 stars because it was phenomenal, even though the ending was a little slow.
While I’m familiar with stories written by or based on work by Agatha Christie made for television, I’ve never actually read any of her work before. So, faced with an opportunity to listen a book on loan, I decided it was a good time to remedy that ailment.
When I think of Christie’s work, I think of popular characters. While I had not heard of Tommy and Tuppence before, I found them to be characters I enjoyed going on an adventure with. Listening to a reader colors the characters, and I thought the reader did a fantastic job, making it easy to follow the different players.
Lastly, I enjoyed this story. Sometimes I enjoy trying to figure out the mystery, but this is one where I found myself wanting to simply enjoy the ride. Having 96 years of mysteries to study since the writing of this book, a reader could see this mystery as being a bit simple. In a way, I like that there aren’t twists piled up on top of each other. That being said, I thought the end was well timed and well presented, keeping my curiosity piqued.
I am sure to pick up another Christie book for another fun adventure.

Um livro interessante diferente do que eu esperava para uma obra da senhora Christie.
Descobri o vilão logo de cara!
Vale super a leitura para quem gosta do gênero, da autora e de algo para entretenimento

My mum got me into Agatha Christie in my teens but I had never read any of her Tommy and Tuppence novels. I had a great time with this one it will try the others soon. Also, I loved Japp's brief appearance and the fact that the two young sleuths existed in the same universe as Poirot.

I first came across Tommy and Tuppence in 2015 when I watched the BBC adaptation with David Walliams and Jessica Raine. I loved it at the time and made a note to pick up the books at some point in the future. Only now have I gotten round to doing so and unfortunately the first book was not what I was hoping for.
The plot didn't hold my interest and that combined with a lack of logic in the actions of the characters made it hard for me to follow. Considering it is a short book, it took me way too long to get through it. Both Tommy and Tuppence were constantly running into danger without considering the implications of their actions. As a reader I was shouting at them constantly for each ridiculous decision they made(Clearly Tommy breaking into the secret house was not going to end well for him) Sadly I also didn't find them as likeable as I did in the TV series. They are younger in the book and the naivety and immaturity shows.
I can slightly overlook these points though because it is meant to be a more lighthearted, fun read. What most disappointed me was the mystery element. I guessed early on who Mr Brown was and this almost never happens for me (!). The clues were a bit heavy handed and obvious and not as clever as some other Agatha Christie novels that I have read.
This is a fun lighthearted adventure novel - read it for this and the period setting but not for the mystery element!

It seemed like it took forever to finish this audiobook...I guess we didn't travel together enough the past few weeks. This was a charming nearly Victorian mystery novel, set in the early 20th century. Tuppence and her friend Tommy have decided to have an adventure and post an ad. They end up embroiled in the search for the mysterious Jane Finn and the papers she was given on the Lusitania. Many plot twists ensue, and by the end, hero and heroine have achieved success and found love. What could be better?
