From the moment I saw that this book was a cross of The Witcher and Pirates vibes, I didn't need to hear anymore.

When I tell you that I was hooked from the beginning, I was HOOOOOKKKEEDDD. This is an exceptional example of the captive/captor trope done really well. Littered with endless tension, banter, and sexual pull, the two MC's had an undeniable dynamic and I couldn't get enough. Whether you were reading about the main characters or the other great characters, each had their own personality and hidden secret. Believe it or not, my favorite character is actually not one of the two MCs. OOPS! Not sorry.

Getting to the world building, it felt complete and clicked together beautifully without feeling dragged on or dull. Captivated fully, I found the pacing to be medium to fast pace and the overall story flowed wonderfully.
This book is one that will have a permanent place on my shelf, as well as the future books in the series.
If you enjoy reading dark fantasy stories with a fierce FMC, an MMC that reminds you of Geralt of Rivia, and an unraveling story, please give this book a chance.
Definitely recommend.

An adventure you won’t put down

Note: this is the first book in a duet and it does end on a cliffhanger.

If the author intended on writing a stellar story, she absolutely delivered! This book is impossible to put down! I loved this first half of the story, and cannot wait for the second!

The characters were amazing and they’re so easy to obsess over. The FMC is a bit of a mystery, and as her secrets are unraveled, so too is the broody MMC who can’t help but feel more than he bargained for.

This enemies to lovers book features morally gray characters, banter, humor, delicious spice and adult themes. There is action and violence on page too.

This story is an epic tale with a lot of adventure and intrigue, and You’ll be on the edge of your seat for the conclusion!!

I knew I had to read this book as soon as I saw it was described as a cross between The Witcher and Pirates of the Caribbean. And let me tell you, it didn't disappoint! I had a great time immersing myself in this universe and discovering new and unusual things about it. It contains magic and a beautiful society built around the mercenaries who control Skull's Row, the Zenith. The world-building itself didn't feel drawn out or boring; rather, it felt whole and fit together flawlessly. The characters were very expertly created. Everyone had the impression that they were believable people with extensive backstories. Nobody felt like they were lacking anything. Soren and Jane are the epitome of enemies turned lovers. I frequently gasped and laughed at Soren's words and Jane's sass. I adored every aspect of the exquisite tension that existed between those two. I'm eager to read more of this universe, and I can't wait for Book 2.

"I'm a disciplined man, Jane. I can stay here for as long as you need before the lesson sinks in that you don't run from me while in my charge."

This book was full of secrets and action! It follows the story of Jane, an orphan who received a prophecy to leave where she grew up and not return until a debt is paid. She also has a forbidden tattoo with the symbol of a dangerous mercenary group - one her father was a member of. Some of her memories are murky and she has secrets she hasn’t shared with anyone. Until Soren, the mercenary hunting her down. After catching Jane, he works to unravel the mysteries of her secrets and why the Council would want her. He decides he’s not going to let her go so easily after sparky fly. This story is told in dual POV, full of magic and political intrigue, and secrets that will have you flipping the pages. I really enjoyed it!

“Let’s go, little warlord”

Did I finish this book in one sitting? Yes. Yes, I did! It was definitely a struggle to put this book down to even get lunch. You definitely will enjoy this book if you love enemies to lovers, forced proximity, he falls first, pirates and a feisty FMC.

I 100% fell in love with Soren and his morally grey personality! I loved the tension and banter between him and Jane. It was the perfect amount!

I loved the plot and the spice in this book; I do wish there was a bit more world building but I could still understand it! There were a bunch of twists and turns in this book that keep you wanting to read more. Don’t get me started on the ending. I do hope in the next book more things are explained a bit more.

Long story short; if you love enemies to lovers, pirates, morally gray characters, one bed- one horse trope, touch her and die, slow burn with spice- this is a book for you!

I was provided an ARC of this title for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

some tropes to mention:
TRUE enemies to lovers
Forced proximity
Touch her and die
Hidden identities
Magic
Plentiful secrets
Pirate adventures
SPICY SPICE

This dark pirate fantasy romance is a TRUE enemies to lovers that comes with plenty of intriguing plot to go along with its spice, a morally grey mercenary MMC, a vicious little thing of a FMC whose fight or flight is always active, always in overdrive and ALWAYS set to “fight first, ask questions later”—and the kind of banter that will have you kicking and squealing your way through the chapters.

She’s got a mouth, and an attitude to match, that have a tendency to land her in trouble— and he is trouble.

Jane’s been in hiding for ten years under a false identity, but Empath Daddy Soren has been sent to call her home. Along the journey, curiosity gets the better of the mercenary, and he sets out on a mission to learn the secrets that Jane’s buried deep; hoping to gain some insight as to why the infamous and dangerous council of Skulls Row is so desperate to get their hands on her.

They’ve both survived day to day on such high stakes in a wildly dangerous world, and the pair soon turn to each other for safety, captor effectively becoming protector.

But that ENDING turned everything I thought I knew on its head, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment of this series! Thank you so much to the Author and R&R Book Tours for the ARC!

I received The Secrets of Jane in return for an honest review from R&R Book tours.

Jane has been on the run most of her life hiding but now her village is on fire and a stranger with a mask has arrived in town determined not to leave without her. Soren is on a mission capture the auburn haired beauty at any cost. However, she's not what he expected and the spark is instant for both. The more he learns about her secrets the more he's not willing to give her up yet if at all.

I love Jane she's an awesome character she has her softer compassionate side but is always willing to risk it all for her friends and doesn't back down. Soren is swoon worthy for a morally gray guy who's been working for the council. The have this instant little spark that grows as the book progresses and starts to sizzle. I love the relationship between Jane an Soren they have this steamy chemistry that just works. I also like the few side characters we had the chance to get to know Bones and Kathleen.

I devoured The Secrets of Jane in just one afternoon I was captivated by Jane's story right from the start I had to know what was going to happen next. I love that it's written in a dual pov because I really liked getting to see what Soren was thinking and going through. I really loved that I was able to connect with both characters they are engaging and I just love them together.

This is my first book by the author and I'm obsessed with her storytelling style. The Secrets of Jane is a captivating whirlwind action packed adventure that keeps you drawn in till the very end. This is a cliffhanger but don't let that keep you from diving right in. It's a unique story that mixes magic and pirates in a dark gritty world. I loved The Secrets of Jane its a beautiful story that I can't wait for the sequel to get my happy ever after. In the meantime I'm going to work my way through the authors other books. Highly recommend.
