As palavras "argonauta", "milagre" e "visionária", "mega construção" e "megalomania". Não se encontram no livro, mas são antes as consequências e deduções que retirei de um texto tão longo, belo e repleto de narrativas vividas. Trata-se de um livro difícil e exigente.
Não sendo fácil de concluir, tenho a dizer que gostei bastante e que o esforço valeu a pena.
Começo a aperceber-me de que Saramago coloca muito de si nos seus livros.
Há alguns anos, tentei várias vezes ler os livros de Saramago, mas não os compreendia, eram difíceis de acompanhar. Percebo agora que me faltava leitura, mas também mais tempo e compreensão para conseguir assimilar o que escreveu e o motivo por trás das suas palavras.

i feel like this book was 50/50 for me, which is a shame because i love his other books. overall, it was an enjoyable read, but nothing too special. the parts about the construction dragged and every time the royal family came up i wanted to stop reading. the parts about the couple and their friend, though! i wanted so much more of that than what we got, it's ridiculous. those 3 are gold and fun and just everything one could dream of. i really wish the plot had followed them more.

3.5 really, but i can't bring myself to round it up to a 4 because it didn't feel like a 4 star book at all.
