Totally admit I’m not the audience for this series, but they do fill in spots in my Readathon

The irrepressible Oliva charms us again as she spins a yarn for her class. She tells them that she went to a circus but that all of the performers were out sick "with ear infections." She was able to fill in for them...in ALL of the roles. Oliva the tattoo lady, lion tamer, and trampoline queen. It's fun to pretend along with her, and it's really hilarious when the teacher sees through her tall tale.

Olivia is asked to present what she did during her vacation and she tells everyone how she did all the things at the circus because the performers weren't available. Olivia is definitely not for everyone. She is precocious and spins tales which we as readers see with visual brilliance. However, she can also come across as a liar. I personally enjoy her books as they illustrate the power of imagination. This story is one of the better ones that I've read from her series as well.

For: Olivia fans; readers wanting circus books/back to school books.

Possible red flags: lying/telling stories and not admitting to falsehoods.

Okay so Olivia is a bit of a brat with not a very great grasp on the truth. And this one is not nearly as good as the first one. But she's so cute - whether exercising on the endpapers or making pancakes or performing in the circus. And she's smart and capable and still ends up in bed on time.
