Book number 2 in the Parasol Protectorate. Some of the characters I found endearing in book one now became a bit annoying to me. Alexia's best friend Ivy is so dreadfully unaware of the calamity occurring right under her nose ALL THE TIME that her silly musings about etiquette became so maddening that I just wanted to skip over parts. And while I found Lord Akeldama's terms of endearment charming in book 1, I grew tired of it in book 2. It was as if there was a race to see how many silly endearments one could be called in a book. Squash bottom? It just grew tiresome. I did however enjoy the moments between Alexia and Lord Maccon. Somewhat disappointed that book 2 did not hold the magic for me as book 1 did. Solid 2.75 rating. I'm not sure I will be listing to book 3 in the series.

It was an entertaining audiobook, I enjoyed the narration quite a lot, especially the different accents. The voices were distinctive so it was easy to understand who was speaking, it made it easier to follow.
The story itself didn't really appeal to me, which is why I only gave it 3 stars: the whole mystery wasn't really entertaining, I didn't care for it that much.
However, the characters were as entertaining as in Book 1, I laughed out loud (on the train) several times and enjoyed the banter between Lord and Lady Maccon quite a lot. I will probably start listening to Book 3 tomorrow, since the overall experience was quite enjoyable and I hope the next instalment has a story that will appeal to me more.

Just a fun read! Had to stop myself from finishing it all in one night. :) Love her explanations for why British Victorian society evolved like it did.

This is a very fun series. This particular title included a bit more steampunk aspects than the first, but not to the detriment of the story. Really enjoy the mix of manners, action, Victoriana, and paranormal elements.

I felt like this one really dragged at times, but at least it seemed to pick up towards the end. AND it left me wanting to read the third.
