CAUTION! CONTAINS SPOILERS! SPOILER ALERT!

I'm really disappointed with this second book! I really loved the first book, the humor the dynamic relation Alexia and Lord Maccon had and the world Gail Carriger had created was so refreshing and great. I never thought she would do so bad with the second book! I'm a bit chocked actually. Almost nothing interesting happened in this book! And one of the things I disliked most in this second book was how the author decided to get Alexia pregnant! I mean..really?! Did you really had to do that! Why couldn't you wait a little longer before tying Alexia up with a baby? It's so annoying and boring:/ and the ending was so so bad! I'm really upset because the first book is really one of my absolute favorite books. I don't think I*m gonna read the third book because I don't wanna read about a desperate pregnant lady with a jerk husband: Good bye Alexia :(

I really enjoy this series :).

I always forget how good this sequel is. I much prefer married Maccons to courting Maccons, so that's already a huge plus. And then we get more time with Ivy, who I love, and Madame Lefoux, who I am much more attached to after recently re-reading the Finishing School books. Oh! And getting to see Sidheag again. My heart, she is so full.

The plot of this one is great and I love Alexia's snappy efficiency as she solves the mystery. There's a lot of groundwork laid in this one for future books and I'm very excited to get reacquainted with the rest of the novels.

3.5

I found the first book in this series to be a fun, guilty-pleasure sort of read. Sadly, I found that I was bored throughout most of this book.

The plot has potential but the ending is predictable. The final few pages do make for a great cliffhanger, especially since it relies on the readers' attachment to the characters.
