I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. The Dalai Lama has much to say about world peace, politics, unity, war, climate change, refugees, and his views on the rise of Nationalism. Spoiler alert: He is not a fan of Donald Trump and he says so. Great little book. Quick read.

Lots of good thoughts and ideas (obviously) but very repetitive. The journalist that put this together should’ve either added lots more or published it as an article with lots of the repetitive stuff cut out.

A very short and beautiful book.

The Dalai Lama is a truly inspiring human being, and his thoughts are always beautiful and reasonable.
The world would be a much better place if we'd all be living by his six principles.

Recommended read!

I read a book by the Dalai Lama last year and enjoyed it. On my Open University History and Politics course I recently had to briefly study the reputation of the Dalai Lama and it has given me more of an interest in the Tibetan Buddhists, particularly the Dalai Lama's beliefs. He is such an intriguing figure to me and this book gives a litany of his thoughts on how to improve the world.

I am not a religious person but this book isn't about religion as such. It is mostly about ethics and human rights. Sadly, I found that this book was extremely disappointing. I feel that the cover and title is misleading in that this book actually consists of two interviews between journalists and the Dalai Lama where they happen to talk about current world issues rather than a book specifically written by him for the purpose implied.

Overall I would not recommend this book. Although the Dalai Lama has some interesting ideas about achieving world peace, the book itself feels like a lazy compilation of two interviews that are available elsewhere.

An Appeal to the World is literally a small book that gives quite the impact. It is 5x7 and just over 100 pages. It can very easily be held in your hand. I will admit I knew basically nothing about the Dalai Lama before reading this. I won a copy in a giveaway on Goodreads. I was glad to win it and learned some things. Among them the Dalai Lama loves laughing and has to have humor in his life! He gives his thoughts on many topics including world peace, gender equality, religion, secular ethics, and even his opinions on Donald Trump (he is not a fan.)

What he says makes sense and it causes you to think. I would love to meet him and hear what he has to say and see what makes him laugh! He loves laughter, and laughter can be the best medicine.

There are also sections that talk about the Dalai Lama’s life, which makes a great introduction to those such as myself who are unfamiliar with him.

The only critique I have to offer is that I was under the impression that this was a book written by Dalai Lama. That was why I entered the giveaway. It is actually an interview where questions are asked and he gives his answers. I was disappointed in that.

Thank you Goodreads for my copy. It was a pleasure to read.
An Appeal to the World is recommended.
