AND the last book of 2017 was a winner!

Picked this one out at the library in the "librarian's recommendations" section. This one has to be one of my favorites I've read this year. Jane Steele is the author's rendition of a murderous Jane Eyre, though I have never read, I now most definitely want to! I loved the main character and heroine, Jane Steele. I much appreciated her dry and sardonic sense of humor, as well as her willingness to take things into her own hands. This is a page turner, and a lot of different storylines are going on but Faye seems to effortlessly connect it all together in the end. I will be reading more historical mysteries in 2018 I believe, all thanks to Jane Steele.

Best. Jane Eyre. Adaptation. Ever.

Loved it!! Don't listen to the audiobook... read! So good.

I had a bit of a false start with this one. I borrowed it from the library and started reading it. However, I could not really get into it and ended up returning the book before I finished. I decided to try it again but in audio. It still took me a little while to get into it but once I did, I was really engrossed. The narrator draws comparisons between herself and Jane Eyre though she admits that their situations are only similar occasionally and she approaches life much differently than Jane Eyre. Really enjoyed the narrator. She really embodies Jane's character and reads the other characters with enough difference to easily distinguish them from each other without getting too theatrical. I ended up liking this one a lot more than I thought I would after my initial false start.

Jane Steele is an inventive, exciting, and murderous take on the Jane Eyre narrative that will thrill readers of all ages.

More review to come!

I found Jane Steele had a bit of a slow start but once it got going it was a lot of fun and quite clever. Takes some inspiration from Jane Eyre (as the name suggests) but is much different read (in a good way).

Would definitely recommend the audiobook as well.

This was a very slow start for me. So much so that I had to put it down for like 2 weeks and then started up again and fell more and more in love as the pages went on.

Jane! She is unreal and funny and smart and I literally gasped out loud so many times. I really didn’t think I would like this based on the beginning but that’s how it kept me reading. It would be slow and mundane and then almost out of nowhere Jane would do something completely unexpected and I’d cream and what to read more.

The ending at Highgate House I loveeeed and cried! And ugh. Clark at the tea house?! Ugh. So many tears. The situations with the Sikhs and the sweet Sahjara and her parents, the treasure! It was such great story telling.

I noted down so many quotes from this book and I really enjoyed it. Jane is an amazing character and the little excerpts from Jane Eyre were a nice touch. This was a great read.

The beginning gave me Harry Potters vibes… maybe just the school aspect. But the third section was so beautiful and hilarious that I couldn’t put it down. The mystery, the deceit, the family drama?! So good! If you liked Jane Eyre (even if you didn’t) read this !
