Tim Seeley and a plethora of artists bring you the story of Cassie Hack. She along with her trusty sidekick, Vlad, set out to slash the slashers. After their traumatic upbringings they've set out to do what no one can, and that's ridding the world of slashers. Slashers, right out of horror movie tropes. It sounds stupid. Its not. Its parts Blade, Buffy, and many more and its pretty fun. It was actually more tame than the artwork I'd seen for the book. There are some obvious flaws in the book around following conventional tropes and some of the art was beyond bad. All that being said it was entertaining and that's the goal.
I decided to pick up something else while browsing the comic store the other day in a break from my usual Spider-Man. So I picked up the comic with the violence, the gore and the big breasted women. Ha ha. This comic is awesome - as a lover of crappy slasher picks this really does something interesting with the concept. I'm going to keep reading.

A highly entertaining take on horror movie slashers. It's a little rough around the edges at times but I really enjoy the world they've built that includes everything from Freddy, Jason and Chucky to The Crow. Crossovers are very hard to pull off but they do a great job at bringing wildly different characters in.
Unfortunately, I didn't finish this. Partly, the library copy I had was absolutely falling apart and such a pain to read, but I also found myself glazing over the story... it just didn't grab my attention well enough that I wanted to continue the story.
Premise: Cassie Hack, after going through a series of traumatic events involving her mother as a child and teen, becomes a serial killer for Slashers, zombie-like killers bent on destruction and revenge. She travels with her Frankenstein-like partner, Vlad, to hunt down Slashers and make everything a bloody mess. Each chapter goes into a different story, a different Slasher with a different reason why so-and-so became a Slasher.
Art: The art is actually pretty nice, but there are different artists for the stories, so expect a lot of different styles to be represented. Overall, Cassie is pretty typical goth-like girl, attractive and wears a lot of black, sometimes revealing clothes. Vlad is usually designed with a mask and the other characters vary from attractiveness to downright ugly. The colors are nice, neither strong or passive. I would expect more intensity in the slasher scenes, but I didn't quite feel that.
Characters: Cassie is a pretty stereotypical, moody girl. Aside from the few times where she expresses her naïvety, she gives a lot of attitude and speaks in a very straight-forward manner. She doesn't have time for your bullshit and she would like to kill the Slasher, and move on. Some will like this, some will get a bit bored by it. Vlad is pretty passive, he plays a supportive character, so you don't learn too much about him.
Stories: Some were interesting, some were kind of bland. Like I said earlier, I just couldn't get into it. I like to think myself as open-minded, especially in the comic world, but this one had to be set aside. Perhaps I'll try it again in the future.

She hunts slashers…as the Final Girl becomes the hunter…
Hack/Slash Omnibus Vol.1 by Tim Seeley is a collection of the earliest comics published following Cassie and her partner Vlad as they hunt various slashers across North America.
Cassie was the final girl of the terrible murdered known as the Lunch Lady. It was particularly tough considering the Lunch Lady was her own mother.
Since then, she has worked to bring down those than continue to operate.
Despite being energy 20 years old( the comic is still pretty fun and cheesy. It even features issues dedicated to properties like Chucky and Evil Ernie. The world even created its own lore and unique slashers…that might inspire other writers.
Still…good dumb fun for the time..

Been reading this comic on and off. It's good, gory and some of the story lines are more fun than others. The graphics change depending on the story. Didn't finish because there is A LOT OF STORIES but may return someday and catch up on others.
