This made me want to reread Wed by Proxy since I read Brides of Karadok series before Vawdrey Brothers.

I didn't think I would love this as much as I did since it is one of Alice Coldbreath's earlier works but it was so much fun. I love her heroines especially. Even though Fen wasn't as head strong as some of her other heroines I still really enjoyed her story.

Oswald could have groveled at the end but I always want the hero to grovel so that doesn't say much.

The court politics were interesting enough but I personally didn't care about Princess Una's controversy since I have already read her book and know what happened. To be honest I feel like I need to reread the books I didn't enjoy in the Brides of Karadok series because I might appreciate them more now.

Alice Coldbreath has bewitched me with her characters and unusual storylines, and I love her for it.

Fenella and Oswald were arranged to be married over a decade ago so when her husband wants a divorce to marry another, she turns to Oswald for help.
I really liked reading about Fenella and Oswald but surprisingly, I enjoyed the other parts of this book too. I found it entertaining watching Fenella balance court life and the politics that surround it. While there were a lot of characters to remember, I found myself following each of their side stories fairly easily too.

Oswald was great. He was a little rude at times but I just couldn’t help but like him. He never had any malice behind it and I loved watching him slowly adapt to behave better after Fenella came back into his life. He always seems to be thinking about Fenella and it was the small things that made him so loveable like hanging up her portrait she gave him when she was a teen. Also, we love a long time celibate man. Please I need more of these now!

Fenella was such a sweetheart. She was always just trying to do the right thing and make everyone happy. She was soft and kind but still very impressive with all the crap she had to put up with in the past. Often times these types of characters can get a little annoying with their doormat behaviour but it worked with her. She still had her own thoughts and opinions but just wanted to be a good wife and fit in and there’s nothing wrong with that.

It was a little slow at times, but having listened to it rather than read it, I never really minded the slower parts. Some slow parts I actually loved like the romance ( Slow-burn romances are >> ). It had low angst/drama but the parts we got were perfect. It wasn’t too much but it fit well with the development of the story. I just really enjoyed reading this book and now I have to jump back to the first one! I’ve heard it’s even better so I’m very excited!

Oswald is a stick in the mud spy master (not as exciting as it sounds) and finds out that the king wants him to marry the king's latest mistress. Thankfully Fenella falls rights into his lap as a perfect excuse not to do this.

I adored Fen being so heart on her sleeve, and plus size and gorgeous. Oswald was great too. Tbh how does he stay so fit as a spy/ really it's a desk job lol?

Oswald fucked up so bad but his GROVEL my dudes the grovel was too notch.

Contains:
Many spicy scenes. I believe 4-5 scenes.
Very good grovel.
The tension of living in court - kind of interesting and suffocating lol

This just had too much in the way of political maneuvering within the royal court which diverted from the development between Oswald and Fenella. And there were moments where Fenella felt like she verged on being a bit obtuse. I also did not find Oswald to be a warm character and he still seemed like a stranger to me by the end of the story.
