Not unlike the first volume I'm left with more questions than answers. I like the concept of it but the story line is more than a little confusing for me. I think I'll stick with the series just to see where it goes and hopefully that will bring me some clarity.
Art style is lovely, as always.

Death continues his search for his son. The rest of the apocalyptic horsemen continue their plotting to bring the end of days. Strange, intriguing story combined with amazing artwork and design make this a memorable read.

This second volume doesn't "Wow!" me as much as the first volume of "East of West," but the quality of the story, the world, and the art remains excellent. You can feel the story building to something epic, but this volume doesn't provide that payoff. It's likely not to come for a very long time. The best part of this volume is probably Death's encounter with the Oracle, and Nick Dragotta's rendering of her makes her a truly twisted creation. I have to wonder if I'll eventually see her backstory revealed in greater detail within the series; I hope so.

The plot thickens, and I like it. Wonderfully weird and muddled mythologies.

The story continues, with betrayal, reveals, and broken love and honor.

Okay, I'm hooked.

The first volume of East of West seemed like it was a love it or hate it thing from the reviews I read, and I see this one being only more polarizing. If you loved the first one, you'll love this even more. If you hated the first one, you'll hate this one even more.

The art is awesome as ever. After I finished reading, I flipped back through just to soak up the fantastic visuals. The story continues to open up and add more layers. Plus it ends with a CRAZY SAUCE cliffhanger.

So now I go back to waiting for the next volume.

...Aaaaand this confirms that the decision to read these in a tight timeline was correct. There's no fucking way you would remember what was going on if you read this as the trades came out. 6 months isn't a long time between trades, but it's a long time when I feel like, two trades in, the story is still building. We don't have all the pieces at the end of the first, and the second, at the end of this one I think we're STILL just getting to the real start of the story.

I find, more and more, I have issues that aren't with the books themselves, but the way they're presented and published. I would love to see this as a thick, single volume. Or maybe broken into three parts or something.

I find it odd that comics haven't figured out what Netflix knows, that people like to watch an entire season, or even an entire series, in very short order. We love it. And that's why Netflix-produced shows come out that way instead of weekly. Because then everyone watches the whole thing, not to mention that everyone's talking about the thing in a concentrated burst when it comes out.

This comic would make great binge-reading. Having 4 volumes in front of me at the start is a much better experience than picking this one up 6 months after I read the first. That was insane. That would never work.

Comics seem very tied to either a monthly or one-shot format without a lot of room in between. I'd love to see them put out in longer, binge-season form. I think that would kick ass, and it'd also allow for really complex stories to be told.
