1.5* rounding it up (for now). so unfortunate that most of this book is driven by some kind of unbelievable romance between two people that had known each other for less than a month. i had not been able to wrap my head around that for the whole series.
narampa ending in a coma is so dumb too, there was no point in her antagonism with balam, nothing wrapped up, barely met.
what was the point of okoa even? writing him out like that felt so weird. the author seemed to really that man… does not even mention his death further in the book or that it even happened at all? why did i read about this man for 3 books???

Really incredible world building. I loved every aspect of the magic, cultures and technology. I hope Roanhorse writes more books in this universe with a new cast of characters!
Without giving anything away, the story was a strong conclusion to the trilogy that was satisfying without being feel good. The character growth felt true and not plot driven. There were some really well written, tense scenes and big pay offs. The descriptive language was also the best yet. More than once all of my hair stood up. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fresh take on the fantasy genre.

I loved every minute listening to this book. While I could guess at a couple of the twists, the way everything fit together by the end was so beautiful. This was a great conclusion to an absolutly epic trilogy, and I hope Rebecca revisits this world in the future!

This is a fantastic close to the series. However, like the other books, it takes a while for you to understand what's going on. There are a lot of characters and many names are mentioned. I read the books as they were coming out, so I really didn't remember a lot from the previous book and felt lost quite a bit.
One particular issue I had is that I didn't know why Serapio was doing everything he did. What was his motivation? Why did he want to rule Tova? His initial motivation was to defeat the Sun God, which he did. So why did he keep going?

I only have one negative and that has been a constant through this trilogy. I wish that the author had included their substitutions for “they, their, and them” in an index or along with the explanations of clans and the characters that fall within them. Xe, Xir and Xi are used as replacements but in doing so, the proper tense of the word is confused. Example: “Xe was a devote follower of the Sun Priest” where if directly translated “was” would be were”.
Anyway…I am happy Serapio and Xiala ended up together in the end and if it were to be a fourth book, I would hope that Nara woke up. The bad guys got what they deserved and the story ended on a positive note. I really like how Xiala’s story came full circle and she ended up being Queen, not only that, but her and Serapio now have a son.

I felt this was a good finale. The author tied thing up well, and I quite liked the ending and character arcs. 😀

This final book of the series was a bit stronger than the previous one but still a far cry from book 1 for me. I enjoyed it overall and found the conclusion satisfying enough.

It started off quite slow, but by the second half there was sufficient action that I was excited to keep reading. The end of the fighting was a little anti-climactic. I found the emotional resolution to be touching
