a librarian put this in display as their staff pick favorite book… and not to yuck anyone’s yum but, really? this book? favorite?
i guess there was nothing egregiously unreadable about this book, but it was just boring. there was no yearning which is so vital for a successful romance (for me). it was a lot of just lustful attraction, but even the sex scenes lacked an emotional through-line. oh and after the first (and only) detailed sex scene, the other has a sequence of summary where the two characters “talk” about “everything” and then confess their love shortly after. this is a pet-peeve of mine because it makes it difficult for me to believe that the charlie and miles are ready to run off together forever.
in general, the writing was just meh which translates to the characters. honestly, the most interesting character was alma. i wished we could get a book about her.
overall, i read this to finish my library’s reading challenge. i look forward to reading better books on my new picnic blanket. btw this is the second book i’ve read with a mean, gay character name charlie… what is it about the name charlie that inspires this stereotype?!

It had a rather strong beginning and that's about all I can really say for it, the rest of it became a rather dull.
After the initial meeting of the love interests they spend a rather small amount of time together on page, with the implication that most of the off-screen time together is of the "spicy" variety, leaving they romance feeling rather shallow.
