Be warned
the author does not shy away from the 15 year age gap between our main character who is 15 and her husband who is 30

This book was great!!! I never knew about the filles du roi but this was so cool to learn about. (Writer brain says: An Intriguing Concept). Reading one of these books as an adult was interesting because they girls in these books are so young but for their time in history they are considered young women and basically grown. I also enjoyed reading the Canadian perspective on their Indian neighbors; I think the author handled it really well. I’m going to try to read more from the Dear Canada line as I mostly read Dear America.

Delightful and heart warming tale. Perfect for readers of all ages but perfection for the intended audience. One of those books that brings history to life and middle school kids will love it and not even realize they have learned something . Definitely a favourite of this series for me.

Well written, considering the age group that it was intended for.
I remember that this is the book that got me hooked on the "Dear Canada" Series when I was about seven. It seemed like a good mix: a story about a older girl than I on an exiting journey, and I could learn something while I read; history and some french. One of my favorites of what I have read.

i love héléne so much omg. she is funny and
her sister dies and she mourns for like a month and then is like “whateva she was ruining the vibe anyway” iconic
and i know the whole point of the book is that the king of france is paying her to go and get married, but
the fact that it was her dads best friend was a little suspect 😭 i mean they did have chemistry and he was a super great guy it was just such a big age gap but that’s history i suppose
overall i love this book so much

Some parts of this book are sad and other parts are happy. One thing that I felt was odd was how at the end of the book, Kateri, who wasn't much younger than Heléne, became Heléne's stepdaughter. Other than that I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover!

This was one of my favorite books in the Dear Canada series because the entire concept was something so foreign to me.

I'd honestly recommend any of the Dear Canada books to young girls because not only are they educational but they're interesting and I remember reading them and thinking it was really cool that I could learn about Canadian history without feeling like that's what I was doing.
