i feel i missed so much because she has 15+ books but im most confused about their father running a crime empire out of his lumber business
Sadly wasn't for me. I really struggled to get into this, and I tried to push through purely for the Coeliac rep (yay first time reading a fellow GF!). But ended up DNF as it just couldn't catch my interest. It felt really drawn out, with it going in between each character and them liking each other but for some reason neither could pursue it? I didn't really get why, other than she had a previous relationship with his brother. Surely they could just talk it out? It is obvious from the start Owen doesn't have much interest in his family, and doesn't keep in touch so would it really matter if they dated? Consenting adults and all that.
There is a lot of repetition, both characters constantly reminding about how they can't like the other, reminders of Owen's father and the towns people all being judgmental etc. It sort of all got a little dull for me, and nothing really happened for quite a while.
I also wanted more inclusion of the FMCs disability. It is a hard one to live with every day, that people often don't realise, and it does impact your daily life and relationships. Whilst it might have been included more after I DNF...I would have liked a little more of this and some plot too rather than just the back and forth lusting after one another. And oddly I just didn't really feel the chemistry at all, nor their characters. I didn't mind the FMC but the MMC was just annoying and it was uncomfortable how much he didn't want to be there and just talked down on it all. WE GET IT, YOU HATE YOUR HOME TOWN. But surely he can have other thoughts, and not be as self absorbed?

4 ⭐️ Hot diggity dog I didn’t know I needed a lumberjack romance until this book came along!
Owen returns to his small hometown in Maine when his help is needed with the family business. His brothers hire him an assistant to help out and it turns out to be Lila, his brother’s ex girlfriend. Lila is at home saving up to go to grad school in New York, so of course she jumps at the chance to make more money. What happens next is a wonderful combination of grumpy/sunshine, age gap, sneaking around goodness that left me swooning AND hot and bothered.

I am hooked on Lumberjacks. Caught in the Axe by Daphne Elliot has been on my list ever since finishing Mother Hater and learning this would be Owen's story, Enzo's best friend seen in the 4th Mom Coms book, and the start of a new series.

Owen's & Lila's story was so sweet. The obvious age difference between them is written in the way they both handle their developing relationship and it's addressed head on which I liked. Owen is like boyfriend perfection - he is attentive and shows her he truly cares (all the gluten-free food and snacks were adorable!). They have great chemistry which makes the slow burn so good. And the spicy bits were perfection - he might be a little geeky on the outside but he is anything but in the bedroom.
This was a great introduction to the Hebert brothers. There is a bit of mystery around their father's criminal ways which I hope we learn more about in future books but the different personalities of each brother really drew me in and I am excited to see how their stories come about. Gus's story is up next and I cannot wait. Also, I am 100% going back to read the Lovewell Lumberjack series which ends with Finn's story.
Bonus: if you loved Mother Hater, you'll love the guest appearances in this one!

I loved this story! I liked seeing how he struggled with keeping his independence/life in the city with helping his family. I loved seeing them make their relationship work and their struggles with keeping it secret.
