Becstar is star-hopping mercenary-gone-full time-gambler light-years away from Earth. Leaving her old life behind with the help of her magical luck dagger and her friend Sally Soolin, Becstar ekes out a living under the nefarious Shadow Syndicate's radar. But when a mysterious girl appears with grim news and an urgent quest with the universe fate hangs, she has no choice but to join and regret it immediately.

I was excited about this graphic novel. It, sadly, did not meet my excitement level. The plot was confusing, I had to keep flipping between pages to understand what was happening. It felt all over the place, and I feel like the story would have been done better if the plot was better planned out.

The art style, however, was phenomenal. I absolutely love this artist's style of character drawings.

This graphic novel just fell flat because the plot and worldbuilding were too jumbled for my liking, however, that does not mean someone else will like it!

Sadly I didn't really enjoy this. Not for any particular reason, just because it was a little boring, and I didn't really care about any of the characters. However, thank you Netgalley for letting me read this arc

3.5 stars!
thanks in advance to netgalley for early access to this!

Becstar is an action-packed graphic novel/comic that is perfect for those looking for a little slice of a simple sci-fi world & a beautiful set of illustrations. Although the story wasn't too in depth, it was entertaining from the beginning and never got too complicated. Its straight forward plot, led to a clear conclusion. I wish it was a bit more complex in the end and had a bit more nuance to it--towards the last couple pages it felt as if it had sped up too much, but other than that it was an easy read, that takes you into a new world for a bit of time! I would love to see more of Becstar's adventures, as well as an expansion onto this story's ending!

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc of this story in exchange for an honest review of what I thought of it.

Rating 3⭐.

Becstar is a mercenary playing with time light years from Earth. Leaving her old life behind with the help of her magical dagger of luck and her fan-turned-friend Sally Soolin, Becstar makes a living under the nefarious radar of the Shadow Syndicate. But when a mysterious girl shows up with grim news and an urgent quest where the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Becstar has no choice but to join...and immediately regret it.

I must say that the story left me a lot to be desired, the premise was quite interesting and the art it has I can't deny it, it's one of the prettiest I've seen, but I feel like I was pulled into a story that had already begun; I would have liked to have been told a little more about Becstar's origin, I think the story we are presented with would have worked much better in a second volume.

I also felt that the relationships and interactions of the characters were very empty and most of the story all these relationships and the plot were too confusing and I think it could have been handled in a better way.

The plot really caught my attention and the art kept me hooked, but almost everything else left me wanting, maybe I'll get around to reading the second volume, but with this one it was a big meh.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this as an e-arc in exchange for an honest review

Unfortunately this one let me down, it majorly lacked world building and character building. Because of that I didn't fully get into this, I never felt like I got to know the characters and understand their motives. In saying that, it has some really great female lead representation - I always love the idea of a female lead team / gang.

The art style in this was very unique and was definitely my favourite part, but it didn't save the story in the end.

2/5 for me.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing an eARC.

I liked the art, you can tell that the artist really spend a lot of time on it, and the way past events are drawn is really good.
I was excited to dive in and discover this world, however I was disappointed : I would have liked more world building, context, and character developpment. I found the plot to be confusing at some points.

To begin with, the art in this graphic novel was stunning. It added to the story, i liked the way it presented the past and present and I really enjoyed it.

I wish I could say the same for the actual plot though :/

Becstar is a star hopping mercenary-gone-full time-gambler light years away from Earth. Leaving her old life behind with the help of her magical luck dagger and her fan-turned-regret filled-friend Sally Soolin, Becstar ekes out a living under the nefarious Shadow Syndicate's radar. But when a mysterious girl appears with grim news and an urgent quest where the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Becstar has no choice but to join... and regret it immediately.

The world building, the characters and the relationships were really confusing to say the least. None of the characters were particularly interesting, they felt falt and kind of shallow. The world building was undevelopped, I couldn't understand anything for a big part of the book and that's why it took me so long to finish it.

This could have easily been volume 2. I wish we got to know more about our main character Becstar and her origins. I just felt like I started reading a story that had already begun.

I didn't feel any connection to the characters. Perhaps the character I liked the most was Sally, Becstar's best friend, because she was such a great friend and always there for the others!

This is my short review for [b:Becstar|57958647|Becstar|Joe Corallo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1620262605l/57958647._SY75_.jpg|90812354] :)
I wouldn't recommend the book, but that is just my personal opinion and anyone is allowed to like it. Others may find it interesting but for me a lot of parts needed more explanation.
