Di bagian awal aku baca buku ini, banyak misteri dan tanda tanya di benakku, sebenarnya apa yang sedang terjadi... setelah sampai di pertengahan barulah misteri tersebut sedikit terpecahkan.
Ternyata Meg Cabot mengambil cerita King Arthur untuk novelnya kali ini. Tokoh-tokohnya pun di buat namanya dimiripin seperti di cerita King Arthur.
Ceritanya bermula dati Ellie Harrison yang harus pindah ke kota baru untuk sekian kalinya. Karena orang tua Ellie merupakan pasangan Profesor, medievalist yaitu ahli2 yang mempelajari sejarah jaman pertengahan, harus sering berpindah2 sekolah, karena orang tuanya sering mendapat sabatikal (atau liburan) untuk membuat buku dari hasil penelitian nya.
Ellie bersekolah di sekolah Avalon High, dimana ia bertemu William (yang tadinya mereka sempat bertemu di jurang belakang taman). William sangat tampan, kapten Football, dan cowo populer di AValon. Ellie yang diam-diam tertarik dengan William, merasa sedikit kecewa karena Will berpacaran dengan Jennifer, cewe pirang cantik anggota Cheerleader.
Will dan Jennifer pun bersahabat dengan Lance.
William beberapa kali mendekati Ellie bahkan ia memanggil Ellie dengan sebutan Elle, dengan dalih merasa mengenal Ellie dan merasa Ellie sangat familiar. Hal imi ternyata berkaitan dengan masa lalu Will sebagai King Arthur.
Ellie yang belum pernah sekalipun mendapat perhatian dari seorang lelaki manapun, kecuali teman sekelasnya ketika ia duduk di bangku 4 sd, merasa sangat bahagia dan jatuh cinta kepada Will. Will yang romantis sangat perhatian kepada Ellie bahkan membelikan Ellie setangkai mawar yang cantik.
Kisahnya lumayan seru dan menghibur cuma aku sedikit merasa ceritanya agak dipaksakan agar mirip dengan legenda King Arthur.

Avalon High was the first book that got me interested in reading for fun. Granted, it's not the BEST book, but it's special to me because of that reason.
The story is about Ellie, the typical "normal" heroine who just so happens to be a teenager in high school who also just so happens to attract the most popular boy in school. You may have heard of this story before.
However, the difference is that this boy, Will, is the reincarnation of King Arthur.
Not going into detail (mostly because I can't really remember much considering the last time I read this was about four years ago), Cabot provided some interesting twists to make up for the...well, seemingly dull plot, and that's what kept the story going.
Cabot's take on the King Arthur legend is an interesting concept because she adds in characters like the Lady of the Lake. Though, some of the twists are lost on me because I wasn't so aware of the legend when I first read it. Avalon High makes for an easy read, and I think it's a good start for any beginning reader.

I saw the Disney Channel movie a loooooong time ago, thought it was amazing, loved the twist. Then I later found out it was based on a book. Read the book, liked it, and realized that the mind blowing twist from the movie wasn’t in the book. And also didn’t actually make sense.
Anyway, it had been awhile since I’d watched the movie or read the book so I decided to read it again. I liked it okay this time. Ellie was a little irritating at first, and had a lot of “I’m not like other girls” moments. It took a while for the plot to pick up, and even then, there was never really much actual action.
Still a fun read, not too much brain power needed, but it could have used a little more.

Even I fall into traps like this. This book reeked of teen girl pathetic-ness. Although if you want mindless drivel, this is where you need to go.
I remember finishing this book in the middle of the night in a bathroom on a family trip. The chokehold meg Cabot had on me in junior high was unreal.
Rereading as an adult, it's fun, has a strong female main character, and a compelling plot line. Glad I reread it. Original rating when I was 13 was definitely 5 stars, easy. It holds up better than I expected.

Nunca había leído un retelling sobre la leyenda del Rey Arturo, pero puedo asegurar que después de este libro, voy a hacerlo.
Es un relato brillante, la manera de referir el mito y compararlo con la realidad, lo que según los estudiosos paso y, al mismo tiempo, mezclarlo con la vida de estudiantes de instituto. Realmente muy interesante, me encanta cuando los libros nos enseñan cosas que ignoramos. Me encanto el detalle de que cada capítulo incluyera un fragmento del poema la dama de Shalott de Alfred Tennyson.
Elaine, o Ellie es un personaje fantástico. Ella no se resigna al destino que la marca como Lady Astolat y quiere actuar de acuerdo a sus propias convicciones sin importar el papel que tuviera en su vida pasada. Lo único que me molesto es que, teniendo todas las pruebas sobre la mesa, habiendo sucedido cosas extrañas y todo, Ellie se niega a creer que ellos son reencarnaciones (o reflejos) de los personajes artúricos. Su escepticismo ya estaba volviéndome loca al final.
¿Qué decir de Will/Arthur? Perfecto, simplemente perfecto. El tipo de líder que seguiría a todas partes. Eso sin contar que es sexy. También me molesto su incredulidad, creo que al final de la novela él no termina de creer que es Arthur
Nunca creí que diría esto, porque en la leyenda original realmente la odie, pero Jennifer/Guinevere , llego a caerme bien (e incluso sentí algo de lastima por ella).
Por supuesto que deteste a Marco/Mordred, incluso llegue a tenerle miedo en serio.
Otra cosa que logro aterrarme completamente fue la tormenta generada por las fuerzas oscuras para asesinar a Will. No suelo temerle a las tormentas, pero el modo en que esta relatada esta escena me mantuvo al filo de la silla todo el rato.
Creo que es un retelling sencillo sobre el rey Arturo, pero no por ello menos interesante. Esta relatado en primera persona, por Ellie, por lo que se lee rápido y siempre dentro de las impresiones de esta chica, que varias veces es hilarante.

Back when I was a teen, Avalon High was one of my favourite books from Meg Cabot. It’s sweet, it’s packed with historical references and you wish you had a Will in your life.
Now that I am adult, I always find some pleasure reading. It’s light and refreshing, it’s a quick read that takes your mind off things and throw you into the universe of King Arthur. The characters, while a bit cliches, are still charming.
A good book all in all.

This was very sweet, but skewed more to "modern teen romance" than retelling of the Arthurian legend. I really liked the character twist at the end.
