Sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking— but always wholeheartedly sincere.

Kudos to all of our talented contributors for their beautiful words and unabashed vulnerability!

I often listen to Modern Love podcast on spotify. Most of the stories were beautiful, so I decided to read the book as well

What I really love from this book was the fact that I can read some of New York Times essays with no subscription haha

as it's a real mix of stories it's very hard to give a cover-all review, and if you could give a review that would suggest the stories were too homogenous anyway... a lot of the same sentiment coming out of these, but one or two real killers, particularly ann marie feld's. it is always heartwarming though to see so many movie-esque stories happening in the busyness of cities, and that the same feelings and endings do come up no matter where you are in the world. i would have loved to read more that felt unfinished, or like the author very clearly hadn't even fully understood their experience, as a lot of them are told from the perspective of years later, which can make the reader feel a little lost. i do enjoy the unapologetic approach though; each person gets to tell their story, choose their morals and highlight whatever they want without abridgement.

I am spending some time in a class on essay writing. This was an enjoyable collection to both read and analyze the form. Perfect read for those times when something light is required.
