I loved reading Pride and Prejudice. At first, I was a bit intimidated; I had tried to read the novel once before and it just wasn't clicking for me. However, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to give it a second chance.

Jane Austen does such an amazing job balancing wit, comedy, and romance in this novel. So many of her characters have fast-paced dialogue that shows their level of intellect without making them seem like pompous assholes (or if a character (Mr. Darcy) does come across that way, they have chances to grow). The comedy was also something I really enjoyed because there were some instances of obvious comedy, like Mrs. Bennett's over-dramatics. But, there were also instances of more subtle comedy, like Kitty is upset Lydia was invited to a friend's house even though Kitty is older. Finally, the romance, specifically between Elizabeth and Darcy, was my favorite aspect of the entire story.

Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship started off as so antagonistic (for extremely valid reasons) and at the halfway point I didn't know how they were going to reconcile because it seemed like every interaction they had just drove them farther apart. However, Jane Austen knew what she was doing and I should have trusted her. The second proposal scene where Darcy admits his faults and acknowledges that Lizzy had some valid concerns is one of the best in the novel. He also says that he has spent time working on himself to change some of these less desirable qualities and offers to never bring up the topic of his feelings again if Lizzy decides she doesn't want to hear him out. This character growth was so stunning and really made the book stand out to me. People often have a difficult time admitting when they are wrong, especially men. I understand why Elizabeth agreed to marry him the second time around.

I DNFed this book in 2020 after being “forced” by a friend to read it. Back then I did not understand the language nor did I enjoy the book or the writing at all…
Yet I have thoroughly enjoyed this book the second time around. I devoured the language. Love the characters and wish that more books and writing could be like this. I love the way the language twirled around the characters joyously emulating the characters in the lost perfect way. I live the trope of love turning you into a better person. The hurt, the strife, and the struggle through love that you feel in this story is beyond words can explain. I wish to go back to the language of these times where it meant something to say the word Love. They had used various amounts of words that greatly explained how they felt and they were just regularly taught to have conversations in a honorable manner. I enjoyed this book and it is one that I will have to read over and over again.
If you have had trouble with this book I’d say pick up some simpler read with the same sort of time frame and read that first it makes reading this language a lot easier. Also if you have DNFed this book, Please please please come back and try it out later. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.⭐️

I had really high expectations for this book especially with all the high reviews and it being many people's favorite. I've read many classics, however this is probably the oldest of the ones I have read. The style of writing, switching between characters without really indicating it, was hard to keep up with at first. It took a while for me to get used to it, and understand who in the story was talking. I also felt that there was a lot of wordy chapters/paragraphs that were unnecessary to the story and just kept it long. The first half was probably my least favorite and it took me the longest to get through. I didn't feel that much was really going on up until the second half of the book.
Once I did reach that halfway mark however I started to enjoy it more, and I felt like the story was finally picking up, and there was more interaction with the main characters (something I'd been waiting for the whole time). It was incredibly interesting to read about how different things were back then, especially for women, and what was deemed proper. Expectations for a woman were set incredibly high and all were dependent upon marriage. I love that the main character, Elizabeth, stood up to these social norms in a lot of ways, and remained her own person despite what society expected of her.
