2022 Review: Audio book. Well! I am very glad I gave this book another go. I really enjoyed the audio version. I think with certain books it is hard to get passed the idea we have of the story from seeing the film adaptation so many times. Sometimes, it is much better to have someone else narrating a story for you to really be able to appreciate it better.

2014 Review: I thought the story itself was good enough, however there were points where I felt like too much detail was being put I to little things and it was losing my interest. Other than that I thought it was good.

I trust in any recommendations for books and a close family member had been encouraging that I read Anne Rice's "Interview with The Vampire". This was years ago. Finally in the summer of 2018 I have picked it up and decided to begin a journey like no other...and it certainly was a book I've never read before.

Louis Du Point Du Lac is just your average joe vampire who just so happens to begin an interview with an interviewer who stays anonymous in this novel. Louis begins to tell the story of his life, starting with him
grieving the death of his crazed brother and becoming so low in life that he excepts vampire Lestat Du Lioncourt or something or other average joe to let him become a vampire as well...and Louis completely regrets it. In fact Louis hates it so much he doesn't even enjoy the thrill of harmlessly biting into people's necks like his bloodthirsty friend Lestat.

Louis is forced to deal with Lestat more when he turns (adopts) a little girl named Claudia into their group. And Claudia. Claudia was a surprise for me as a reader. Probably one of the most complicated characters I've read, and that includes Humbert Humbert from "Lolita". She was probably my favorite character until she became ashes at the end (RIP Claudia, gone but never forgotten).

Overall I thought this book was very interesting and I loved how each vampire treated their 'symptoms' differently: Lestat the killer, Louis the remorseful, Claudia having a bit of both and never growing up physically, Armand who can't give all the answers though he's one of the oldest the reader meets in the book. Unfortunately the book dragged throughout, which took away from my experience, because I really loved Rices prose and her characters.

Also not a fan of the ending. It was just kind of meh. But it didn't ruin the book for me.

The movie is also very well adapted. Of course some things are different but overall it was a faithful adaptation and for me I really loved the ending in the movie much better than the book. There was something about Lestat appearing out of know where and surprising the interviewer that made me laugh but also made me intrigued. Kudos to the makers of the movie because I really enjoyed it. I almost liked the movie better than the book.

I know there's at least quite a few books in the series and this gal here is going to try to read as many as she can before they start coming out of my ears.

Fun fact: It took me 6 years to finish reading this book.

I am a big fan of the movie and had never read the book but was curious of it. So when I came across its cover on a yard sale, I bought it instantly.
Yes, they were similarities from the book to the movie, but for the most part, I felt as if I was reading a different story. And that was okay by me.
Armand was describe slightly different. Instead of losing his wife, like it was portrayed in the movie, Louis lost his brother.
There were more talks of other vampires, characters and scenes that were not seen in the movie. And the ending was different, to my surprise. But I was not disappointed with it’s entirety at all.
It felt new. Refreshed. And the writing was heavenly presented. I enjoyed reading about the different sceneries and beautiful works of art.

I milked my way by it because I wanted to savor every page, taste every sentence and capture every scene in fine detail.
I will be looking into book 2 and 3(since Queen of the Damned was also a favorite of mine)

This has been on my TBR for years! What drew me in was the talks of this having queer undertones which were present, but it was very much just undertones. This is not the gay vampire book I needed, so I am still on the hunt. This did, however, start a desire in me to dive a little deeper into the dark/gothic genre. I am definitely going to keep reading the rest of the books in the universe! Albeit very very slowly and with long breaks in between since there’s so many.

I’m also diving head first into all the media based on the book. First is the movie! Who’s coming over for the premier?!
