I started off intrigued, but, ultimately, there weren't enough answers for me within the constant internal struggle for belonging.
I could say so much about this book… I could write hundreds of words in this review and still not be able to fully convey just how much I needed this book at the exact moment it found me. Thank you, Anne Rice, for seeing me.

I'm surprised how much I liked this novel as a whole.
I disliked the first half of the novel: Lestat was the worst, I couldn't believe that they turned a child into a vampire, and Louis overthought everything, but didn't do anything about the things he was overthinking (fair enough). However, the second half of this novel addressed all of my dislikes and made me sympathize with the characters, even Lestat. For some reason, I expected a more bittersweet ending when it was just bitter with a bit of humour. This did make me like the novel more though. Also, the writing was wonderfully decadent.
If you do end up reading this and you, like me, hate the beginning, I would recommend trudging through it to get at the heart of this dark novel. Recommended for those who love vampires and an existential crisis.
P.S. This is an LGBTQ+ novel and I can't be convinced otherwise.

i have no idea what the writers and producers of the interview with the vampire show saw in this WEIRD AF book but whatever it was, i‘m do glad they saw the vision because otherwise the masterpiece that is this show wouldn’t exist
about the book itself…wtf. there are so many things wrong with it, the worst one being the extremely icky way louis sees/treats claudia because what the hell that is literally his daughter why is he talking about her like this???
i didn’t care about any of the characters (except maybe armand) and i blame the really weird way this was written for it; you never really get to know anything substantial about the characters and sometimes they hardly even interact - which is a bad starting point if you’re supposed to care about their relationship (yes, i’m looking at you louis and lestat). the plot isn’t that interesting either because it has the same issue, it’s a lot of telling without showing.
and the cherry on top was that every single sentence sounds like „he was whiter than the whitest white man you‘ve ever seen. did you know that he’s really white and pale? don’t forget that he’s extremely white!!“ ugh

this book is a great introduction to the vampire chronicles. After being introduced to the story through the television show, I wanted to go to the source material. Anne Rice’s writing is so beautifully descriptive and captivating. Having it in an interview/retelling format kept my mind challenged since there are several instances where Louis is an unreliable narrator. Hopefully more context and perspective of the events that occurred will be in the following books. This book did not disappoint and has made me excited to continue reading the series.
