Oddly, the speed at which the story was told was my favorite bit. The plot was snappy, with sudden twists and quick-scenes that propelled the story forward in only a few paragraphs. Meanwhile conversations and quiet character moments were drawn out enough to make us stall and read between the lines.

LOVE how the true horrific actions of the Automa’s are never glossed over. The perfect amount of gore/horror to resonate.

DID NOT FINISH

I wanted to like it but the writing was not for me.
adventurous dark emotional hopeful tense

Sooo good! The two unique perspectives were written so well and made for a fun contrast with how different (yet similar) they were. I felt the pacing was a little fast at times but I loved it, never dragged once and I live for the angst. The dark snippets of the world’s history between chapters also helped flesh out the setting and left me wanting more. Very curious to see where the story goes!

(Also pleasantly surprised to see the author is a Namjoon stan from the acknowledgments! I love her even more now )

This was so much fun!! The story takes some time to get going as it sets up the world but once the pacing picks up, it doesn’t stop. All the mysteries had me hooked, and the inner turmoil faced by both Ayla and Crier as they slowly questioned everything about themselves was delightful.
The cherry on top was the ending, where Crier discovers that she isn’t actually “flawed,” but was built just the same as the rest of her kind. An excellent metaphor for queerness imo.
So looking forward to reading the sequel after that ending!

"A drop of water gleamed on Ayla's lower lip. Strangely, it made Crier want to - drink."
- page 190.

beautifully written. crier's yearning. ayla's desire-woven hatred.
THAT. KISS. SCENE. crier thinking of ayla while imagining sex...
just beautiful, in all facets.
