A handful of gems, surrounded by a litany of  poorly written, confusing, and downright bizarre stories that don't provide any insight into the film or the characters.

So I finished this and took a bit to think about it before I decided on the rating. Overall I enjoyed this book. I love the different perspectives and different authors that contributed to this book. Some stories were better than others. I had a few I disliked quite a bit. One or two that I loved.

I think most of the stories add to the Star Wars Universe, but there were a few that I thought were just added for page count or to create an even number of stories and authors. There was a total of 40 stories and authors so that is a pretty clean cut number. I think because this focused on a general sense of the Star Wars Universe instead of just one particular movie, etc. it left a lot to be desired. I think that the second book is better (which at he time I didn't realize the order they were in) due to the focus just being on one movie but there are drawbacks for that as well like that some of it became extremely repetitive. I think it does work better overall though since you can follow the timeline a lot easier.

Overall, highly recommend for Star Wars lovers and people that like to get more in-depth with movies, etc.

It's an anthology and the story quality is incredibly mixed. A few stories, like "The Kloo Horn Cantina Caper," "Of MSE-6 and Men," "Born in the Storm," and "The Sith of Datawork" are delightful. Most are mid, and some are bad, especially and unfortunately the last one, "Whills," which is trying very hard to be funny and failing even harder. Overall, it's worth a read for a fun look into alternate perspectives and random bits of lore.

I’ve been a Star Wars fan for as long as there has been Star Wars and I never really tire of reading about characters from that universe. This is no exception. A huge selection of stories dealing with characters that simply didn’t get enough screen time to justify their stories are now getting their due…and there are probably hundreds more. These are the hidden stories of hidden characters who nonetheless play a part in this great epic. I look forward to the others in this series as well.

A New Hope is my favorite Star Wars movie. This short story collection has only deepened my enjoyment of that film. The book takes you on a great journey through A New Hope from the point of view of so many diverse characters from across the saga. Not only are there many different characters featured, but different writing styles as well. This helps to keep the reading experience interesting and never monotonous. With 40 stories there were bound to be a few clunkers (and there were), but most of the stories were incredible. I don’t want to get too specific with some of the stories and characters featured, but I will mention the most surprising tale: R5-D4, the droid with the bad motivator. Arguably the most emotional story told in the book.

I was blown away by From a Certain Point of View, and I hope this is the first in a series of canon short story collections based around the Star Wars films.

This was one of my favorite star wars book recently! Not every story is great or my favorite, but overall a very cool idea. (A whole story about a mouse droid!?) It basically tells the story of A New Hope through different perspectives and characters, but also adding new stories, content, and back stories. Some stories that I really liked were a bittersweet enjoyment because they added context that we didn't have before, making certain things so much more tragic!

This was, as most short story anthologies go, a mixed bag. There were some stories that were phenomenal, and others that were very meh.

Highlights included the stories about the Modal Node musicians, the X-Wing pilot who didn't make the cut to get a fighter and fly against the Death Star, the Dianoga, and for its quirkiness I also liked the one about the officer on the Star Destroyer who is a forms wizard. The Qui-Gon. Yoda, and Obi-Wan stories were poignant and worth the read as well.

The anthology definitely needed some better editors, particularly in the otherwise rather good story about the Rebel base ship technician - not only are the flight hours insanely high, the hours and kills for Tiree change page to page. That was a big let down to me.
