Plot or Character Driven: Plot

ARC Review- This was a 2.5 ⭐️ read. There were some parts that were interesting, but for the most part, I found myself bored and annoyed at the characters.

At first, I was so excited. I couldn’t put the book down because of the short chapters and the eventful plot. I liked how fast everything was progressing, and I found myself invested in the plot and characters– even the side characters 👀 And the third act truly was meaningful. I get it Lux. If that happened to me, I don’t even know if I could forgive him. But why this book wasn’t a 5 star read for me was more than what I enjoyed. I disliked the cheating in the beginning. Regardless of how Lux’s current boyfriend treated her, I disliked how Lux and Slate already started their relationship. At some point, there were SO MANY miscommunications. I get the attraction, I truly do. But they don’t communicate, and they don’t learn how. It’s frustrating, and in the end, I didn’t even care if they ended up together. And if they do, I don’t think they would last. And after 60%, I was close to giving up. Lux is so annoying. I thought her character was funny at first, but then like, dang girl. There’s literally no character development. She’s just constant and flat. If a character isn’t for me, it just brings the book rating down.

“𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘢𝘮.”

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, which had me hooked from the start! The stories behind both the FMC & MMC were so emotional. The character building through the book was everything 🥺

The love story between Lux and Slate was amazing, it was so nice to watch two completely opposite people fall in love despite their backgrounds 🥹 it made my heart so full!
The spice in this book was 10/10 🥵 Slate is filthy and I’m so here for it 🤭

I can’t wait for what’s to come next!!

OVERALL RATING: DNF at 30%

I was excited to read this book, and I think I signed up because of the promised revenge plot and, of course, the "Gossip Girl" vibes. The beginning was good, and I was excited! Then the further I read, the more my excitement faded until I hit a snag. But I continued reading even though I struggled, y'know, because I wanted to give it a chance.

I finally had to stop, though, because it hit one of my biggest pet peeves, and I couldn't stand it. I had to pause my reading (first), and so I asked my buddy to spoil the rest for me. It didn't sound like that changed in the latter part.

Also, the whole socialite thing — I was expecting her to be hilariously snob, like my girl Basilia LeSpyre from Blood Trial, but I really shouldn't have, and that's my fault.

Lastly, I found the whole plot she hatched to find her brother's supplier as OTT.

Do I hate toxic people and relationships in books? They make my blood boil for sure, but I know they can be realistic, so no, not at all. My whole issue is, if you tell me a character is supposed to be smart or vengeful, then please don't make them do ~questionable~ decisions that contradict what their personality is supposed to be.

SWOON SCORE: NA

I liked how dedicated Slate was as a brother to her ill sister, but aside from that, he didn't really stand out to me.

SPICE LEVEL: NA

Didn't get to any spicy or intimate scenes between the two.

DID I LAUGH? Yes, I did laugh in the first chapter, maybe once or twice, and it made me excited about the book.

DID I CRY? In frustration, yes.

DO I RECOMMEND THIS? Not really. It's not my cup of tea, but I won't stop people from reading it if they think they're still going to like it after reading my review.

 (no-spoilers)

Lux Columbia-Clark is an IT girl from the Hills—rich, spoiled brat (as someone from the Junction like Slate Lawson would call her). Lux is driving towards the salon when, suddenly, her parking spot is taken by none other than Slate Lawson. This sparks some vengeance with Lux and she manages to make a plan to finish his business. However, her brother Alex suddenly grabs her attention when he goes missing and her plan changes in an instant. Now, she has a new target and needs help from Slate, but will he help her?

The dynamics between characters in this book work very well. The spice level for this book is 4/5. I believe that this book is well-written. Queen of Vengeance by Jessica Jude can be read without reading the first book in the series with full understanding of the plot and characters.

I would recommend this book to every reader that loves reading romance that isn't all about the spice, but about the relationship between the characters and isn't bothered with mentions of drug use, abuse (not harsh, mostly mentioned) and of course spice.

3⭐️/2🌶

It was hard to get started on this book. I received this book as part of the advanced copy team. I had not read the first book in the series, so I did that first at the advice of the author. Unfortunately, I really did not like the first book. The good news is that this book is better. But it's just ok in my opinion.

Nothing exciting happens with the plot. There was lots of potential for an amazing story of two people falling in love while being vigilantes and busting the biggest drug dealer in town...but that's not what happens. It was dark without depth.

There were also the same problems from the first book, such as the author adding in British vocabulary when the entire culture reads as American. Another carryover issue is that the core group of friends is unlikable. Fortunately, the FMC is actually the most tolerable of them. So most of this book has better characters than the first one.

It would be interesting to see the improvements in the next book. The writing seems to be evolving. And I think I like the direction she was taking the character Rhett at the end of the book.
Loveable characters: Complicated

I'm sorry, but I do not like Lux and it has nothing to do with her being a socialite. She jumps to conclusions faster than a lightning strike. She puts herself in stupid situations, acting like she can handle herself in a world that she knows nothing about. The shite she pulls on Slate is atrocious. That being said, the 2 of them had some good, playful banter.
I really enjoyed the ending. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Thank you to the author for this ARC.

There was something about this book, it had me hooked. I think it's the fact that it starts out with a tale as old as time - rich girl & poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks - but then, there are these intricate layers that are built on top of that basic foundation, which make this a very intriguing. read.

Lux and Slate. They have a mutual need for each other, because of their siblings. So they are drawn together and try to barter some kind of mutually beneficial agreement, to get what they both need out of each other. However, along the way, they start caring for each other and of course, they trip & fall into bed with each other. But it's more than that; their wounds and traumas are laid bare - and it's how they navigate a way together when all these emotions are keeping them apart.

Again, another book with a good mix of a lot of different components that make it a well balanced, good read - would definitely recommend.

Queen of Vengeance is a pretty solid spoiled, rich-kid romance. The first one in this series had too much pettiness for my taste, but this one was way better, in my opinion.

While technically part of a series, they can be read as a standalone with slightly intertwining stories.

Lux and Slate find something real in a world full of fakes. She’s a “Silver Spoon” and he comes from nothing in the poor part of town. Overall, I liked it. Shoutout to Jessica Jude for writing some *very nice* spicy scenes.

There is a third act breakup, and I don’t love those. So I knocked it down a star.

I was lucky enough to be able to read an ARC copy of this book, thank you to Jessica Jude for that.

When I started this book I did not think I was going to enjoy it that much. Lux really annoyed me with her stuck up rich girl attitude. She was out of touch and snobby and it was something that really bothered me. However, her character development as the story unfolded was subtle but clear. I enjoyed watched the relationship blossom and her attitude to things change as she and her relation ship developed.

the plot was fun but predictable. For me that isnt necesarily a bad thing. I enjoy when books are predictable sometimes, it makes for easy reading. Which is exactly what this is. Its an easy to read book. Something you could pick up and read in an afternoon.

I enjoyed this book and will definatly be adding the rest of the series to my TBR. Thank you again Jessica jude for letting me read this early. cant wait for the next one.
