Awkward when the internet's explanation of the book was better than reading it for yourself.

This is exactly the type of book Netflix would pick up and that is, in no way, a compliment. I want the last 6 hours of my life back.

I can’t even give this book a rating. It was so bad, everything about it.
None of the characters were likable and I felt like I had to force myself to read this.
I’m shocked by all the 5 star reviews.

It hovers somewhere between "I kinda liked it" and "It was ok". I probably would have rated this differently, if I didn't listen to the audiobook. I think the narrator kept me more interested than the actual content, if that makes sense. Idk. It's weird, maybe slightly unsettling ... but not scary or creepy (IMO). I genuinely had no idea where the story was going, so maybe that also kept me hooked? I did not see the ending coming, but also was not that shocked. It was more of an "oh, oh okay" moment.

quiet, introspective, liminal and surreal in a dark, uncomfortable way that builds into terror by the end. a very unsettling atmosphere which i loved. have to watch the movie now

i will say the 'twist' is not as unexpected or shocking as i was led to believe, but i can forgive the book for that because the atmosphere and unsettling, creepy vibe of the whole book absolutely makes up for what the plot lacks. this is not an edge of your seat twisty thrillride. it's a slow build of lonely terror.

This was a weird one, in the best of ways. I absolutely ate this up. There were some things that didn't completely make sense to me but I didn't care! This was the perfect amount of misleading and mysterious creepiness. I loved the conversations and the ending was just crazy!

I watched the movie right after this and I have to say... what the fuck? The movie made me feel like I missed something or I didn't understand the book like I thought I did. What was with that ending??? Too theatrical for me. Or am I missing something?
