Possibly 2.5. This was a Kindle First book. I’m clearly not this author’s target audience, but it was a quick, light summer read.

I love that this story has all sorts of love, from romantic to sisterly.
I did the random dating app appearing on the phone and telling the future weird but it seemed to work well with the plot.
I adored the fact that her brother was deaf and it wasn't a big deal!
The premise of a new start and suddenly meeting people you already know is great, and sort of scary, too.
It's great to see LGBTQ characters just because. We exist too!
A very easy rom-com to read.

This was such a fun read! I loved the characters, they all had depth and were well thought out. The cast of characters was really diverse, and I appreciated the discussion of bisexuality in men. I wanted to shake some sense into Cori at one point, but glad she understood what I was thinking! It was a fun premise of a dating app to find your soulmate and learning how to open up after a loss. The way the author discussed sexuality, gender, disabilities, sex, love, friendship, and grief were refreshing. I hope to read more by Camille Baker!

Corrine has just moved back to Chicago after the death of her best friend. She’s not certain why she moved- could it be to feel closer to Joelle? While feeling alone and defeated one evening, an app suddenly downloads onto her phone- swearing it will find THE ONE! What follows is the ups and downs of life, love, and discovering yourself along the way. I LOVED these characters! Corrine is feisty and fabulous, and willing to admit when she doesn’t have it all figured out.
BUT! My big issue with the book was the fact that the story balances on this “magic app”, but halfway through it is like the story shifts completely- seemingly forgetting the app existed. The ending of the book seems more like an afterthought when adding the app back in- like an “oh yeah, better wrap this up” situation. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if the app had been left out altogether. To me, it never really made all that much sense.
I loved how the story balances grief, the need to continue to move forward but the fear of moving too far away from the time in which your loved one was there- for fear of possibly forgetting them. I will say it was sweet how they insinuated that Corrine’s best friend was playing love doctor from beyond, through the app.
Overall, it was a cute read but nothing to write home about. Corrine’s love interest was “meh” in comparison to the other vibrant characters sprinkled into the story.
A nice easy story with fun likeable characters. She almost lost me when she had a fight with a certain something me towards the end of the book. It seemed silly and like they were trying to introduce a conflict so there could be a tidy wrap up at the end. But it was pretty good up until that point.
A wonderful debut, such a wholesome story with a unique premise.
