21/2/21 reread

My heart will always break for Oyster boy and his tragic story.
—————————-

I didn’t even know that book existed .. It’s so weird and funny and I loved it so much.
My favorites are the robot boy and the oyster boy.

‘The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories’ is an illustrated poetry collection by Tim Burton. To be honest, before I picked up this little book at a book fair, I wasn’t even the biggest fan of Tim Burton. (Not to say that I didn’t like his work, I just wasn’t a hardcore fan waiting for every movie he would bring out.) So I read this collection, not as a Tim Burton fangirl, but as a girl who likes poetry and was amazed by the beautiful illustrations in this book.

I was never zo surprised by a poetry collection. I went in with no expectations at all, but ‘The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories’ conquered a really special place in my heart. The poems were easy to read. They made me sad, in a way, yet I was smiling all the way through. All of the poems were dark, lugubrious, but yet they had this kind of weirdness that made them heartwarming in some kind of way.

And the illustrations – don’t get me started on them. I never thought about Tim Burton that much, but the illustrations in this book made me realize I really, really like his art style. It’s so unique and absolutely stunning!

Definitely a poetry collection I would recommend to anybody!

A collection of macabre poems? Yes, please.

I'm a fan of Tim Burton, I know some have a differing opinion and that's fine, but don't @ me though because I love his work! It hasn't been until recently I started exploring his written work and let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed and the illustrations just hit.

The fact that there was never a happy ending and yet I simply loved each story says something about me, what exactly, I'm not sure yet.

Uniquely bizarre characters, warped sense of story told in verse, and a goofy type of gothic that just pleases me to no end. If you are a Burton fan, please pick this one up.

I love the melancholy death of oyster boy a lot, I like that it has Tim burtons dark themes and dark art style but in a format accessible for everyone. And I like too that each story has morals and lessons adults, teenagers and children can learn from. Overall would highly recommend for everyone to read.

"To avoid a lawsuit, we'll just call her Sue (or "that girl who likes to sniff lots of glue"). The reason I know that this is the case is when she blows her nose, kleenex sticks to her face."

People here might not know it, but I love Tim Burton. His movies are absolutely fantastic and thus I really wanted this book, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Until I went to Amsterdam and found it in great condition in a second-hand bookstore.

I started reading immediately, only to be stopped by my boyfriend since he knows if I start reading I lose track of time and everything around me. :)

So I waited until we had to travel back home. And Oh My Gosh this book is so wonderful, perfectly in style with Tim Burton. It is creepy, gross at times, but also absolutely wow! It is not only text, it also has drawings to complement the prose/stories.

I would surely recommend it to all who love Tim Burton. I am not sure if it will appeal to everyone else, he has a really distinct style and I know from experience that it is not something that everyone will like. It is at least not for the faint-hearted. So be warned, it is a good book, but be sure you can handle it. :)

This book is so Tim Burton, it's painful.

Creepy, funny, and a little sad. It's a fast read, and it's absolutely fascinating. But again, so freaking creepy.

Some of these are going to stay with me awhile...
