I think I was in high school the first time I read this book, perhaps younger. I know that I've read it at least two or three times previously, but I just now read it again for the first time in a great many years. I remember it as one of my favorite Dean Koontz books, and it holds up pretty well.

I thought this was a great book. It kept me up reading until the wee hours of the morning, then the lingering imagery kept me awake until dawn. Excellent writing! Not my usual genre but I enjoyed it all the same.

(P.S. Do not even consider watching the movie. I know this is a site for reviewing reading material, not films. But the movie is so awful, I feel moved to warn anyone to avoid the atrocity that is Phantoms alà Ben Affleck.)

Koontz doing horror/spooky creature. Pretty well, too. Couldn't put it down.

Please note; my star rating on any book is completely subjective and limited to the label for each star.

1 Star I didn’t like it
2 Stars It was okay
3 Stars I liked it
4 Stars I really liked it
5 Stars It was amazing!

If I do actually have something to say about a book other than what my enjoyment factor was, I will write a review and share my thoughts. If I say I didn’t like a book but there wasn’t anything that about it that I thought needed to be shared particularly, then that’s it, I just didn’t like it.

If you’d like to start a discussion about a book or you’d like an actual review, ask any question you like and I’ll be happy to try and comply/respond.

Additional note; I do not feed the trolls. If you don’t have something constructive to say, or if you can’t say it in a respectful way, you won’t get a response from me. Ever.

It's enjoyable but please can we stop shipping characters together? Jenny and Bryce didn't need to be married, we didn't really need anything after kale dying in hospital. A lot of the romantic crap could have, and should have, been cut out. That's my biggest gripe about the whole book. Other than that, I liked the horror story of it! Ended up being rather sad for Frank and Gordy.
