Imagine you come home one day and your family are there, but something's wrong. They look and sound like them and are going about the same actions... but it's like someone has robbed them of their soul and gusto. Yeah, that's what this is like. Throw in some pretty poor Muslim bad guy stereotypes and that's your book.
Not even good if you see it as a fan-fic, not connected to great works of Stieg Larsson. I would much rather rate it a 0 but as it is impossible.
Save your money. This story is not about Lisbeth Salander. Sure, it mentions her every now and then, but it's not about her. Read only if you wish to see how David Lagercrantz butcher the characters completely, stips them of their principles and well established quirks. Nothing is good about this book. Nothing. It makes me cry inside to think that he is allowed to write a 3rd installment.

Really not that bad. Lagercrantz just spends so much time building a story and then the ending is so abrupt. He builds it like the original three books but never really delivers. The resolution is easy, not well thought out and just disappointing.
i don't really know why i'm still reading these--loyalty? to lisbeth? to larsen for being the gateway to my love for scandinavian thrillers? i don't know. the lagercrantz versions aren't as good but still a compelling read. lisbeth is actually the least compelling character in this one--was way more into what mikael was doing--and there was a little too much going on. mining lisbeth's troubled past for the narrative is getting old--it'd be okay if they just solve a cool mystery, it doesn't have to be personal. the whole side story with faria was too much.
The issue with the 2nd trilogy is that it feels rushed and you don’t really delve into to the new and old characters like Larsson did. They’re good books, well written and mostly consistent in the style set up in the original trilogy. It’s just missing the heart and world.
I miss Stiegg Larsson. And I miss Eva Gabrielsson’s insight. Lagercrantz just doesn’t have the subtlety. And he writes from such a male perspective. I don’t want to be reductionist, and yet this novel was so predictable and not in character for Salander. I don’t know that I’ll bother with the next one.
Gripping and well written, maybe a bit too full of coincidences and far-fetched situations. Still, an engaging reading.
Lisbeth is growing up
The story of corruption and cruelty in Sweden continues, but Lisbeth Salander now has a squad of allies who have her back. This book covers a lot of ground but, thankfully, has a bit less graphic violence. Entertaining from start to finish.

Simon Vance returns as the voice of the Millenium series, and that's a very good thing. His voice is the thread that truly connects the listener to the earlier, stronger works. This isn't to say David Lagencrantz isn't doing right by the original works by Steig Larsson; this is still the world of Lisbeth Salander. But the story is weaker here, and the cracks are showing. I'm grateful to have experienced this, but I'm less motivated for another volume after finishing this work.
