The Strike Out

Something happens when Meghan Quinn dives back into the Brentwood Baseball world. When I first read the synopsis my first thought was why is she going backward? I know how Knox, Carson, and Jason’s story’s unfold. But when I read that we were getting a story on Holt (I’ll admit, I had to wrack my brain for his character) and Harmony, I was super intrigued. But then I was wary because I didn’t know if I could handle a heartbreaking break-up scene like the other books in this series did.

Let’s start with Harmony. The heroine of this book. She’s made her way out of her small hometown and is working her way through college towards a degree in Journalism. She doesn’t want to be like her parents, more specifically her mom, doing the same routine daily. I saw other reviews of how they disliked Harmony’s character. And I’ll admit, some things rubbed me wrong. She judged Holt because he was an athlete. After an athlete wronged her. Her reticence to even get to know Holt and even give him the time of day frustrated me. A solid 7 out of 10.

Now Holt. His inner dialogue was hilarious. Although his first impression on me was that of a pompous athlete that thinks he’s better than everyone else. His attitude at the diner sure didn’t help his case. But I learned that he hid himself, his true self, behind his attitude. Holt is a family man through and through. He’s also an athlete that plays with a heart condition. When I read that he has Long QT Syndrome, I quickly asked my sister if it was real. It is for anyone that’s concerned. He doesn’t let his health stop him from playing the sport that he loves and the going after the girl that’s captured him from day one.

Harmony and Holt together was epic, spicy, honest, and real. They really were the epitome of opposites attract. What I loved about this specific book, SPOILER ALERT, was that Meghan Quinn didn’t have them break-up and reunite years later. I think she read some reviews and had Priya, Harmony’s best friend speak them (the reviews) to get through her head. LOL!!! Every intimate scene between these two was hot. From the first kiss, to the first touch, to the first time together. Everything about it just seemed so natural. I loved how they were finally able to get on the same page about their future. Yes, they had to grow up a little bit faster in a short amount of time, but it was worth it.

One thing I will say that needs to be corrected when authors have sports books, is getting the title correct when talking about the sports staff. Qualified professionals that assess an athlete’s injury is called an athletic trainer. Not a trainer, because that could be any type of trainer. In this specific instance, it is Athletic Trainer. My sister has corrected me many times. Not just because she was a collegiate athlete, but also because she got her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training. I’ve seen a few books label an athletic trainer as a trainer, and it kind of irks me. In no means am I taking a star off this read…but for future reference.

They had some cute banter but something was missing to make it as good as the others in the series *shrugs* Could have used more of Jason's goofiness, maybe.

"The Strike Out" by Meghan Quinn reads as a complete standalone, though it is part of Quinn's Brentwood baseball world and comes complete with cameo appearances from a number of favorite characters from past stories, including Jason Orson ("The Lineup"), Knox Gentry ("The Locker Room"), and Carson Stone ("The Dugout").

The main characters of "The Strike Out," Holt Green and Harmony Styles, were both quite likeable and well-developed. Holt was much sweeter than he seemed to be at first, and I loved that he managed to maintain such a positive attitude despite the health challenges he'd faced. I also appreciated that he was so determined to succeed on his own talents instead of relying on his parents' wealth and connections. Harmony was just as determined to succeed on her own as Holt was, although her reluctance to accept help caused conflict between them at times. Their flirty, witty banter was a lot of fun, and I especially enjoyed Holt's cheesy pickup lines and innuendoes as well as the many times Harmony shot him down. They had fantastic chemistry, and the book's intimate scenes were deliciously steamy.

In addition to Holt and Harmony, I enjoyed getting to know Harmony's best friend and roommate Priya, who made me laugh frequently over the course of the story. Priya was just as inappropriate as Holt at times, and it was hilarious when their conversations embarrassed Harmony. I also loved that Priya helped Holt win Harmony over because she wanted her best friend to be happy, and she truly believed that a relationship with Holt would be good for Harmony.

Overall, I adored "The Strike Out" and highly recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance, sports romance, and romantic comedy. I look forward to whatever Meghan Quinn comes up with next!

Brilliant story again by Meghan
Love this series and this one is as good as all the others.
Loved the storyline between Holt and Harmony.
Loved the connection between them both.
Priya was hilarious. Would like to see her hook up with someone.
Really lovely story and so glad Holt got his issues sorted.
Really enjoyed their HEA

This by far is one of my favorite books I’ve read in months....

I’m not one for spoilers so I’ll keep this quick. The story revolves around Holt (college baseball player) and Harmony. They meet at the diner Harmony is working at and Holt, drunkenly, doesn’t leave a good impression. The story follows Holt’s pursuit to capture Harmony’s heart.

Holt - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
He is funny, quit witted, romantic, loyal and charming. He is probably now one of my top 5 heroes of all time. I couldn’t help but laugh at his perverted jokes, and swoon with his declarations for Harmony. He was the perfect mash of sweet and funny that made this book hard to put down.

Harmony - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
Harmony is awesome. She’s strong willed and feisty without being obnoxious. She’s could easily keep up with Holt’s humor which had me hooked with their banter back and forth. The only reason she is 4.5 starts out of 5 instead of 5 is because I loved Holt JUST a smidge more than her so I had to judge fairly.
