This just wasn’t for me. If you’re a fan of Shelly Laurenston, you’ll understand why.

Well this was quite the read and I very much enjoyed this modern retelling of Persephone and Hades.

I'm fairly new to Katee's books and I'm a fan. I saw this one pop through many of my bookish friends, so I had to request this right away.

I was hooked right away and there was so much intrigue to keep reading. I'll admit, what I know of Hades and Persephone is all over. But I'm always fascinated by the retellings and this one is up there as a favorite.

Persephone is no damsel in distress and that's always how I've perceived her when it comes to various retellings. And pair her up with Hades, who is someone you don't quite expect.

Their story is a bit taboo, swift, HOT and packs in some emotions that I didn't really see coming.

I can't wait to read the rest of this series, this was a great start! Anddddddd I need to read more by Katee!

Really enjoyed the premise and the twist on the Hades/Persephone story, but left with a few questions about certain plot points that could’ve been explored/explained further.

Loved it, but wouldn’t really consider it a re-telling of Persephone/Hades. Felt more like gossip girl if you gave them the titles of gods/goddesses. Still great overall!

Pros: Consent all over the place.

Cons: All tell and no show. Repetitive language. Zero suspense, zero thrill, zero character development. Vapid storylines and directionless character choices and behaviors.

Overall: A complete bore.

Would not recommend.

I won’t be continuing this series

What I liked.
- healthy dom/sub relarionship
-genderbent Hermes.

What I didn’t like
-whole plot of the book is based on a stupid ass lack of communication between Demeter and her daughter.
-that the 12 are appointed. There’s been 3 heras and Zeus is priming Persephone to be the next Hera. That’s annoying and sloppy.
-how hades is supposed to be this non existent figure in Olympus and no one knows about him but then in the underworld all these same people are joining his voyeuristic sex parties. You mean to tell me with all that popularity no one in Olympus will talk about him casually? That’s dumb.
-how pious hades got when he was faced with getting rid of Zeus. Dude killed your parents, ruined your childhood, is going to take and probably kill the woman you love and you’re having a “am I no better than he” self righteous moment of clarity?
-how unclear what we were dealing with. Like why is Hermes able to recall messages in peoples exact voices. Are these people magical in any way? They’re not clear on this.

Props to those who did like it but this retelling wasn’t even a reimagining. It was a completely different thing with characters named after Greek gods.
