I just like this book. Pollyanna is the best finder of silver linings ever. I mean perpetually optimistic people can be irritating, but at the end of the day that is who I want to hang out with rather than Eeyore.
A favorite from when I was a child, I read this again as part of a challenge (a book from my childhood). Ugh! What a sugary sweet annoying character Pollyanna is. Anyone that positive all the time deserves a slap across the face. And the adults weren't much better, always creepily referring to her as 'little girl'. And what's with a 60 year old man pressuring an 11 year old girl to make a life changing decision? All this book would teach children now is that you'll be happier if you make your hair look pretty. Blech!!
I was enchanted by this book. I had never even thought of reading it before I started this challenge. This one is set in Vermont in a small idyllic town. If you've seen the Disney movie, starring Hayley Mills, you can really picture it. The book differs from the movie on a few points but all in all it follows the general plot. The book was written in 1913, over 100 years ago, and to experience a book written for young readers so long ago, and actually enjoy it ... I was really pleased.
This book is an amazing little miracle. It should be compulsory to read for everyone.
I've seen this movie many times but I had never read the book before. I thought I would give it a listen and that maybe it would be a good one to read with my daughter as a read aloud. I really enjoyed this...but I will also say I believe the movie is just as good as the book. Maybe that's just my nostalgia for the movie...but Haley Mills was really a perfect Pollyanna and I couldn't help but picture her as I listened to the book. I think this was free with audible plus.
