Against the Grain, although book 5 in the THIRDs Series by Charlie Cochet, it is the first book that doesn’t center on Dex and Sloane. Instead we focus on Ash and Cael – a couple we have long waited to see get together!
This book is definitely more touchy-feely, with the action only really coming into play near the end. This isn’t a bad thing. I liked seeing Ash reconcile his feelings for Cael and start showing them. That doesn’t mean he stops being a jerk, however. There are times I really didn’t like him. I did feel bad for him though.
The intrigue in this book is thick, with you not knowing who to trust. I enjoyed the plot and getting to see Dex and Sloane as well as the rest of Destructive Delta.
I look forward to the next installment in this series!
Narration Review:
As with the rest of this series, Mark Westfield does a superb job narrating. The voices continue from earlier books so it is easy to identify who is who and the scenes are acted as much as read. A pleasure to listen to!

Penso che sia la prima serie di cui arrivo al quinto volume dando ancora cinque stelle.
E niente, adoro questa squadra. Adoro questi personaggi. E adoro queste storie. potrei leggerne per sempre!

I was excited about Cael and Ash's book. This one was a little of a letdown for me, though. Maybe it was because there was so much hype, or maybe it was because I'm absolutely in love with Sloane and Dex.
I do love that we still get Sloane and Dex in this book. I'm glad we got more background from Ash and Cael both. They both have some messed-up things that happened to them.
The ending was crazy, and I wasn't expecting a couple of things that happened. I'm still loving this series!

It’s scary, isn’t it?”
“What’s that?”
“How one person can become your whole world. One day you’re going about your business, and next thing you know, you’re handing someone all your trust, your love, your heart, everything you are. You’re just handing it over and hoping for the best.”
We've been watching Ash and Cael dance around one another for books and books. Now it's time for their own story. Ash is the permanently scowly lion therian, well except around Cael. He knows Cael could become his everything, but his past is holding him back.
Cael, sweet Cael, he would anything for Ash. What I loved most about him in this book, was he wasn't a doormat. He stood up for himself and showed courage where Ash couldn't. I swear I wanted to clap for him when he would call Ash out on his shitty behavior. On the other hand he was also a friend when Ash needed one. And Ash of all people could use a real friend. He could use someone to love him even more as he's never had that in his life.
"Thank you. For showing me what it’s like to be loved.”
Getting the real dirt on Ash and hearing him lay his heart and vulnerabilities down for Cael was heart breaking. But being Cael he knew just what to say and eventually the two worked through it. I was rooting for them, even though Ash is the guy you love to get teased by Dex. This book shows you why Sloane has been Ash's best friend for so long. There is a man behind the growl.

In this we finally get the long time coming relationship between Ash and Cael. It takes Ash a hot minute to get past his hangups about being gay, or really, why being with a man when his brother was killed doesn’t mean being gay is negative. I enjoyed their path towards boyfriends.
The action storyline was actually quite intriguing as well. I feel this new storyline has a lot of potential. After 4 books with similar storylines, this one was a breath of interesting air.

This installment of the THIRDS series felt a little frenetic and unfocused.
