As always Carian has made me laugh, cry, throw shoes at the wall...loved it.
""I feel like I've already loved you, and now my heart's just waking up, remembering how."
How 'bout that hero, eh?
I really liked Lukas in the previous books. He felt a little "off" in this one, but not in a bad way, just different than I had originally perceived him, but still, what a sweet heart he has.
"He is dark and light, and angel fallen and lost, sinfully sweet, dirty and damaged from the descent. I want him on me, in me, beside me. I want to breathe him into me and never exhale. I am completely corrupted by him."
Age is just a number.
I wasn't sure I was gonna be all about the whole "cougar" thing because that doesn't really do much for me, but it was really a non-issue for me here. If Ivy had continued to whine and carry on about it and drag it out it would have been super-annoying, but she finally got over it (pretty much) so I was able to move forward.
Saw it comin', still pissed me off....
As for the whole
Spoiler
"daughter incident"In the end...
Although CC concludes the stories as they are, I can't help but feel like each one of these books has ended with just enough of a tease that there might be a full blown saga to follow up each of these. Some of this shit that comes out in the ends of these books is too much to just leave... I don't know... it's weird.

Audiobook Relisten January 2024 (Audible Plus)
Narrators: Nelson Hobbs and Tatiana Sokolov
Lukas and Ivy's story is one of my top 3 favorites of Carian Coles books. It has a shy, insecure single mom who feels like she has nothing left to give in her life. Lukas is the sexy, tatted 24 year old who brings her out of her shell and helps her see her life is not over after her divorce.
I ADORE Lukas, he is the perfect mix of sweet, naughty, weird and dark. I will never get tired of this audiobook because Nelson Hobbs is the perfect Lukas and Tatiana Sokolov is the perfect Ivy. I really wish there is a follow up book to this because I have so many unanswered questions!

this one solidifies why my favorite trope is older woman/younger man
Just finished my 3rd year rereading my Ashes and Embers guys and just realized I missed some reviews. Lukas is one of my favorites. He is so special and wise. His character is so great and the perfect contrast to his brother - Vandal. The way he pursued Ivy gives my 32 year old heart serious butterflies.
Amazing book. Always a 5 star read.
Spoiler
The conflict in this story with Macy makes me so mad every time I read this book. Maybe if we didn't see what happened from his point of view, I could side with Ivy more and relate to her feelings, but knowing Lukas was innocent - it just breaks my heart every time when Ivy doesn't believe him 3 3Amazing book. Always a 5 star read.
Carian Cole quickly became one of my favorite authors, and I have read every single one of her books so far. This one didn't disappoint either, if anything, it was right up there with Storm!
I've read the entire series, and so far my favorite book was the first one with Storm and Evy, while I loved the rest of the books, they just couldn't live up to that one. I left Lukas to the end - because I'm just not that big on age difference, I thought it would be standard, predictable, and kind of boring.
The absolute opposite!
Lukas is probably my favorite brother/cousin from the bunch, with his artistic mind, to his talking bird, I was in love with him from page one. Ivy was not at all what I expected, what was holding her back from Lukas was relatable, and made her into a real human being - instead of a black and white book character. I was absolutely in love with their entire story, and although I knew they would end up together - from the other books - I could not put this down!
It was an incredible, sizzling hot ride, and if you like bad boys with an old soul, this is the book for you!

I was really looking forward to this book. The first in the series was wonderful, the second awful and this one was meh. I like stories that dive deep, showing genuine emotions, real depth-of-character kind of stories. This one felt like a fantasy, it was all fluffy and light and surface level emotions.
The premise sounds like it's a really great age gap, older woman, younger man story. The husband leaves the wife after 18 years for their dental hygienist. In steps this super sensitive, gorgeously tatted up, muscular, musician, owns a gorgeous house, has his own business, independently wealthy, an amazing lover, 24-year old hunk. Oh yeah, he also owns a Stradivarius that he just so happened to have found in his great-grandparents attic when he was seven years old and taught himself to play.

First read in 2018
Lukas - Vandal’s younger and more stable brother - the sweetest of the bunch. My love for Lukas as a hero knows no bounds. He’s the old soul of the Valentine crew. He grew up too fast - had some dark moments as Valentines are wont to do - but ultimately thrived and chased his own happiness. When another character is struggling relationship-wise, they all turn to Lukas for advise. Ironic since he is the youngest!
Lukas falls hard and fast for a new client as he works on her post-divorce-liberation tattoo. Ivy was blindsided when her husband of eighteen years left her for another woman, but now she’s discovering who she truly is and doing all the things she couldn’t before.
Leery of starting a relationship with someone twelve years her junior, Ivy takes a lot of convincing. Spoiler alert- she’s no match for Lukas! I love the way that he demolished every barrier that Ivy throws his way. He might be younger, but his emotional maturity speaks volumes and makes up for Ivy’s very real insecurities.
It wouldn’t be an Ashes & Embers romance without some angst and this one has a doozy. I won’t spoil anything, but Ivy’s daughter, Macy, is vying with Sydni for my least favorite person in this series. Ask Juliette about her character if you’re feeling brave!
There’s also a little secret bomb that’s dropped toward the end that throws yet another hitch in the “Vandal gets an HEA” road. I have a lot of feelings on the decisions that were made, and I’m praying that Carian Cole revisits this in the near future.
